Okay, so I bought it: Magnum P.I.

I bought season one of Magnum PI. I've only watched the pilot and the next episode, but the theme music is... weird. Did they change it to the more recognized theme later in the series?

Yep. They didn't use the familiar theme until the third or fourth episode.

Hold your head high Mr F.

Magnum is great show. I watch it when I can but it's usually on past midnight in my neck of the woods.

If I made a lot more money than I do, this would have been mine. Actually, I almost bought it anyway, but cooler heads prevailed... I still want it though

Okay - I'm about 7 episodes in (I can't watch every night) and still no familiar theme music. I did skip to the last disc and THANK GOD it does switch.

The first couple of episodes are a little weak. However, I'm impressed at how much better the writing is starting to get in the following shows. This box set is reminding me why I loved Magnum in the first place.

So far, image quality is decent and sound is good. It's about what I expected from an 80's TV show put on DVD. For $40 for the first season, it was a great buy!

I bought this set the day it was released. It is one of my favorite shows ever. The dvd set is very good too. I have only watched the first 2 dvds in the set but I believe the reason the theme changes on the last dvd is because it is a bonus dvd with special episodes from seasons 2,3 and 5 ( w/ Simon and simon and sharon stone)

The "Magnum theme music" (familiar theme) starts around episode 10 or 11 ( on Side 2 of Disc 2).

It's not hard to see why this show did well. The stories are pretty engaging and the characters are extremely likeable. I hope that Universal plans to put out season 2 on DVD. It would be a real shame to stop now.

I've got a real urge to go to Hawaii and drive a Ferrari now.

How many episodes do you get on the DVD?

I'm guessing 25?

All first season episodes, plus the Magnum/Simon & Simon crossover two-parter AND the Sharon Stone two-parter.

I have to thank Magnum P.I. for turning me onto Princess Superstar, a really cool indie rock/hip hop outfit (although the indie rock aspect has been junked by Concetta for a few years now). They appeared on MuchMusic in the late 90s and opened a song with a riff on the Magnum theme (the well-known theme, not the goofy 70s-era theme from the first year). I was instantly smitten!

I loved Magnum as a kid and haven't watched the series in over a decade--I'll have to borrow my aunt's DVD set and see if it holds up. Hey, speaking of Sharon Stone, doesn't she appear in an episode where she bangs Magnum in a steamy shower scene? For some reason, that's one of the strongest memories I have of Magnum.

She also bangs Stallone in a "steamy" shower scene in THE SPECIALIST. Actually, the scene is a snore.

Yep. That two-parter is one of the bonus episodes included with season 1.
