Best DVD to use my new Sony Receiver

I recently bought a Sony STR-DE895 Receiver and hooked up a Bose Acoustimass10 Series III Home Entertainment system into it. I also got an extra Bose Center Channel speaker (VCS-10) for the rear effects (My receiver is DTS ES/DTS/EX capable). I believe this is also known as 6.1 (?)

My question is..what are some good DVD titles to showcase this setup? I have a couple hundred DVDs but I don't have that many that have the DTS EX soundtrack. I tend to lean more towards SCI/FI, Action type movies (Aliens, Equilibrium, etc.)

The original release of The Terminator...

Seriously, you should be able to find some great demo DVDs in this thread.

Enjoy the new gear!

Peace...

Thanks Mr. Kat for the link to the other thread..but I own probably around 90% of the disks mentioned..and most of them aren't 6.1 channel. I was looking for something creepy that makes use of the rear speaker....I remember reading something a while back where somebody said that you could hear footsteps in the background. I want to say it was "Jeepers Creepers" but I don't think neither I or II has DTS (?) I'd have to check to make sure....

Keep 'em coming...

I'm gonna err on the side of caution and say that the reference list is where you should look. Because this thread can eventually descend into those DTS vs DD debates and all that stuff you see so commonly.

Now without going into a huge ordeal, personally the best use of 6.1 I can think of are: Texas Chainsaw Massacre DTS EStrack, Gladiator DTS ES, Terminator 2 DTS ES, and both Star Wars Ep1 and 2 DD EX tracks.

I agree with Titleist on these. Gladiator DTS ES is the only listed 6.1 though.

Jason X is 5.1. Freddy Vs. Jason is 5.1 EX, if that is any help.

Humm..I guess this is as good a reason to go pick up Jaxon X as any.

I thought that ES/EX meant 6.1 or is that just some fancy term for 5.1+?

Dolby Digital EX:
Surround sound format that introduces a center rear channel to the 5.1 playback format of Dolby® Digital. This additional channel clarifies audio effects that pan from front to back and improves the realism of audio that originates from directly behind the listener.

I feel stupid for not posting this earlier. Use either of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVDs as they both come with DD EX and dts-es discrete audio tracks...

Peace...

*slap tomdkat for forgetting the movies*

Anyways i have always like the tracks for Jurassic Park 3 which is isn't labeled as an DD EX and DTS ES dvd. (but it is on my receiver and on other sites it is) just like Minority Report

Blade II is another track that comes to mind that will shake/rattle my windows like crazy with its ES and EX coding.

Harry Potter I & II are another good batch of movies movies to use for the EX coding

Even though its not an EX or ES track you can activate the coding and have a blast with the DareDevil sound.

The Haunting remake. The dts-es discrete surround track kicks arse.

Good integration of the back surround channel, and plenty of LFE for your sub.

Well, since I just listened to Empire Strikes Back in EX I'm gonna enter the Star Wars trilogy into my list of must listen to EX tracks.

Nice.

Re: Best DVD to use my new Sony Receiver

Master and Commander is flat out one of the best sounding discs i have ever heard with awesome and constant rear channel activity. I rank it even higher than the Lord of the Rings movies in the sound and picture department. (i think it has an ES soundtrack) ... if not the surrounds are still plenty active

check out where the boat first gets ripped apart by cannon fire and practically any below decks scene, if you have the disc.
