Ed Wood DVD

What it is the difference between the just released special edition of Ed Wood and the version that was released and pulled earlier this year?

According to this thread in THIS forum

Original Ed Wood DVD discussion thread

It was a cross dressing documentary that was removed other than that the current release is identical to the original release

I think it's important to point out that it was removed at the request of Tim Burton, not to be PC or anything...

It was a really stupid extra anyway, so you're not missing anything.

Somebody answer me this...

The DVDFile review claims that the DVD transfer is "absolutely MIRED with dirt and grime – it’s almost everywhere". The review on dvdreview.com says that it is "absolutely free of blemishes or defects. Not a speckle can be found in the picture".

For those of you who have seen it... which is true??

Yea, really helpful.

I have it too, Porkchop, & I can honestly say I haven't watched it either.

dvdfile's review does talk about the dirt,
which is there, it is true, but not exactly distracting,
I think it was done intentionally to have that "old" look to it.

There were 1 or 2 scenes that have a lot of dirt/speckles. I remember it being in a scene when Ed gets Bela at the rehab center,it is outside with a fence, it is very noticeable, but it doesn't last long. The transfer looks very good.

Looks fine to me. I never noticed anything before reading that review...Of course, I probably will now...Anyway, certainly no reason not to buy this outstanding film.

I didn't notice a lot of dirt, but it didn't seem like that sharp a transfer. It's possible they could've done better.

I remember the LaserDisc being an amazingly sharp and artefact-free print transfer.

Hoping the DVD is the same, since my LD's side 3 was lost to rot long ago...

My dad owns the one-day release that has the cross-dressing doc...the print's perfect on there.

Is that the "purple"-lokking cover?

I have that one, but left it sealed up in case it turned out to be a collector's item...

I watched this again last night. Mine was one of the copies with the cross-dressing documentary that slipped by the recall. I've got to say, I really did not notice any problems. I'm not that anal when it comes to picture quality - average tv, average player - but I thought it looked great. No complaints from me at all. Maybe I was missing something?
