I get the feeling that Silence of the Lambs ahould be on the list (and the other three Hannibal movies maybe... Hannibal, Red Dragon, and Manhunter)

Saw

I like Manhunter the best.

I'm also fond of the original Helter Skelter, too.

I don't believe Psycho and Helter Skelter fit the category, but they are god movies. I must say I love Manhunter too. I forgot that one

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

One of the very few that has no police procedural component.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Silence Of The Lambs...the only serial killer film to win Best Picture at the Oscars (although Kramer vs Kramer was just begging for a massacre).

Uh, it has been mentioned . . . twice. And one of the mentions was even in boldface.

Se7en is by far the best for me and then of course The Silence of the Lambs.

se7en, sea of love, silence of the lambs.

i love psycho, but dont really count it as a serial killer film (even though, by definition, bates is a sk).

i yearn for a decent film on the murders of jack the ripper

2001's From Hell was superb.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Frailty (currently in Best Buy's $5.99 bin). Great movie.

American Psycho is a much better film that From Hell (for example).
Was Saw any good? It looked intriguing.

And, of course, Silence of the Lambs and Seven are classics.

And now, to utterly destroy my credibility, I'll say that Knight Moves was better than most people know.

Pre-code films were the true golden age of Hollywood.

From Hell had a decent cast, with an okay script. Well, it had Johnny Depp, and he's always great. I dunno, I just didn't like it. It was cool, but I love the source graphic novel so much better, and I also prefer the Michael Caine Jack the Ripper miniseries. Its not the From Hell was bad, I just didn't think it was particularly good.

marq, The reason I don't consider Psycho a serial killer movie is because Norman Bates wasn't really a serial killer. He was a homicidal maniac who liked to dress like his mother. But he never killed the same way twice and he only killed two people. By definition, a serial killer kills several people in exactly the same manner. At least that's my definition

I'd always assumed Marion Crane and friends weren't exactly his first victims.... But it wasn't explicitly said, so I suppose we don't know.

I was under the very same assumption. In fact, his mother could have very well been one of his victims if not his first.
