What does the U.S. have that other countries don't?

We always talk about how other countries get awesome dvds...

Kill Bill
Ichi the Killer
Brotherhood of the Wolf
I, Robot
...

But what do Americans get? Showgirls... that doesnt cut it. But seriously... you'd think Kill Bill, by one of the most American directors ever, would get a cool set like in France.

Kill Bill will be released in an ultra-super-insane box set eventually, while Media Blasters has already announced and updated double-dip for Ichi the Killer, even though the US disc has an exclusive miike commentary that I believe is only on the US disc.

So boo-ya-na-ya-ga.

We tend to get major studio releases first- at least if the studio released it in America first. (Recently some big "event" films have been opening worldwide on the same day to discourage piracy.)

I've never seen either of those titles. I checked IMDB and nothing came up. Do you know the director or the studio that released them?

The studio was Republican Pictures and the director was Donald Rumsfeld. Bush was actually just a production assistant.

I don't think Republic Pictures has made a film in 60 years. Are you sure about that?

Do you know if it has this extended footage not seen internationally?

Wow... you know, I'd really like to see a real answer to this question. If people want to play politics, there is a WHOLE other forum here for that.

Brilliant!

I wonder how Casablanca is distributed in Germany. I know for years they had removed all mention of the Nazis. Are both versions availible today, or is it still that way on DVD?

I'm not sure, but I doubt that they re-dubbed Casablanca.

Well, it was re-dubbed once.

Quote:
At the time of release, the film was banned in Germany because the story was considered to be anti-Nazi propaganda by the wartime censors. After the end of World War II, the picture was finally released in Germany but with around 20 minutes of footage cut (all scenes with Major Strasser and all references to Nazism). Other scenes were dubbed so that they had a totally different meaning (Victor Laszlo became Victor Larsen, an atomic physicist). In the 70s the film was redubbed by the ZDF, this time in its uncut form.
I am sure that the 'authentic' version is availible. What I am asking is if the 'butchered' version is as well. I am sure for many people in Germany, that was the way they saw Casablanca. Just a question I had, I guess it really doesn't have to do with this topic.

You're much closer than the bulk of the discussion in this thread.

Not on DVD. And I haven't heard of any TV airings of the censored version. Maybe you can see it in some once-in-a-decade "Censorship in Germany"-type Cinemathek screenings somewhere in Germany?
