Bonds out of print

Hi!

I've heard rumors that all the MGM Bond discs will be discontinued. Any truth to that?
It doesn't make sense to me - I couldn't imagine finer Bond Special Editions.

Unless they maybe all had properly burned in optical titles. They lost a $100 sale; I was going to buy set #3 until I heard my favorite movie, The Living Daylights, wasn't picture perfect.

They could also have done better packaging. I much prefer the covers with the original posters that our friend "zinema" created to the crappy promo art that MGM used.

My $0.02.

Hi!

reeltime: Sure, the subtitles issue was a problem, but it wasn't anything that a simple re-pressing couldn't fix. No need to put ALL Bonds out of print.
And I don't think they pull those DVDs off the market, because they decided they don't like the cover art after all.

Maybe they want to rerelease them in a cross-promo with the 20th Bond next year? (there ain't enough space for the next Bond in the box sets anyway)

Or maybe it's jsut a rumor and nothing more to it. I haven't read anything official on that subject yet.

Malte.

I've heard absolutely nothing about this. I don't think they're being discontinued.

The original DVD versions of a few of the Bond titles were discontinued, but they were replaced by the new SE versions, so nothing to worry about there.

Not saying that the dings I mentioned were reason enough to discontinue them. Just noting that they are by no means perfect, MGM lost a large sale, and if they want to go back and reissue them with corrections someday, that would be fine with me.

I've been a Bond fan for 20 years (the last film notwithstanding) and it annoys me how they just pumped out the titles without much consideration.

Nah. Everytime a new Bond picture is about to start up, MGM "discontinues" the films until the latest and greatest arrives in theatres. It happened back in the early 90's with Goldeneye (vhs), then Tomorrow Never Dies (vhs) and then The World Is Not Enough (vhs dvd: 4 Connery, 2 Moore, 1 Brosnan) .

What was cool is the original Connery/Moore dvds circa 1997/1998 have features not present in the SE versions.

btw: MGM will send you fixed versions of NSNA, TLD, Octopussy and even Spinal Tap if you e-mail them at mgm4you.com (I think thats right). It worked for me.
