Finding Neverland.... Wow That was quick!

Even though it's getting great reviews, and was just recently released,
Miramax is going to release this one in March for 29.99......

That's just Miramax......

Miramax Jackasses..... I called my local theater and they were totally stunned. They did a sneak preview on Thanksgiving day and then Miramax pulled their copy..... Outstanding reviews everywhere...... The greatest movie that no one can see until is arrives on DVD. On RottenTomatoes.com it is in the same category as "The Aviator" and "Sideways" with it's overall review rating.........This movie supposedly has a good chance at being nominated for an Oscar for movie of the year...

We should expect stupid stuff like this from that idiot Weinstein who is also the same clown that supports Michael Moore.

Ugh. Not a fan of the "boxing match half-faces" artwork. But the movie looks fascinating.

I've heard nothing but great things for this film. My best friend, for whose film rating I trust above everyone elses (except for that one little brain fart that he has about liking Batman and Robin) said he loved everything about this movie. Writing, acting, directing, cinematography, everything. To bad the general public around here are wating for the next Dwane Johnson movie. I will be picking this one up barebones or not.

It's been playing (and still is) at every major theatre around here...

It was one of Mirimax's most profitable movies of the year...

My theatre had a sneak preview of it, and then it was pulled. F'in Miramax.

On the flip side, this coverart looks photoshopped. If you look around the title itself, it gets really cloudy, like what was there before was wiped out.

Though, a March date would capitalize on any Oscar WINS it might have, like maybe, Best Picture? I don't see this DVD release frame as being a bad thing. Surviving Christmas in 2 weeks? Yeah, THAT'S bad.

Disney, who make a lot of movies at the Elstree Studios where I work, send over prints of their newer films for the crews working there.

I caught Finding Neverland and Hero in this way recently, and then went back out to see Neverland again with my partner (who couldn't make the Studio showing).

It's a great little film, with some nice effects work. Not sure about an Oscar winner though. As I say, it's a "great little film", though it doesn't dig deep into its subject and seemed very "light" overall.

I learned nothing about JM Barrie himself (other than he wrote crap before meeting a family and getting inspired for Peter Pan), and they didn't really tiuch on the Great Ormond Street Hospital involvement either. A lot of it was a bit Shakespere In Love, with little things jumping out at him, and the audience required to go "oohhh, that's going to become such and such..." in Peter Pan.

A good little film, and enjoyably, but I'd be surprised at an Oscar win, for Picture or Actor.

You live in Canada my boy.... which explains your love for Michael Moore....... 90% of the U.S. is nowhere near a theater that is showing "Finding Neverland".

How are things in Canada? Still trying to not allow Fox News to be shown on local cable TV?

Where did I say I gave a shit about Michael Moore? You questioned Harvey for backing that film and I answered by saying it ended up being a wise move for him considering the huge profit it made. Harvey likes money + this movie made lots of it = wise business move by Harvey. This logic applies to any highly profitable movie for a studio.

Okay. I guess I'll consider myself lucky that it's still playing regularly in 5 theatres here all day every day: http://ottawa.film-can.com/cgi-bin/m...cgi?FID=FIN-11

Things are pretty quiet here these days it seems. Yeah, Fox News is having a bit of a rough time getting onto our cable lineups, but so has ESPN, Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and every other American cable station when they've tried (a few have broken through years ago - such as CNN, TBS. Must've been ol' Ted's doing). Believe me, I want them all, but instead we're stuck with weak Canadian counterparts/ imitations. I guess since Fox News has caused political controversy in the past people have jumped onto our not yet adopting it as some kind of strong political stance from Canada when it's little more than more boring Canadian broadcasting/ content regulations being enforced again. It doesn't seen like something I'd be much into myself, since I don't usually find an urge to watch American national newscast, like those on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, etc.

If I could actually speak or understand French myself, I'd love to provide a witty comeback in that language, but I guess I fall into the majority of Canadians who don't speak French as a first language. But assumptions about people are much more fun aren't they? So I'll just assume that since I can't speak French, but you're from a French-cultured state and use that culture as your message board user name that you're more French than myself and were using the term "Frenchie" as endearment since you thought I was so much like yourself. What's so bad about being French anyways. I like them? Do you hate yourself? You shouldn't, as you seem like a truly great guy.

Anyways, you're a very welcomeing and open-minded person who makes no negative assumptions about people, I see. Perhaps we could be the best of friends?

Sorry Peter! Sometimes one has to defend oneself, even if it's in a thread devoted to quick-to-DVD (but still plenty available to see in theatres*) Oscar-bait films!

* for example, it's still playing regularly in 3 theatres in New Orleans, LA: http://movies.yahoo.com/showtimes/sh...&date=20041210 , and will surely be brought back to even more after the big Oscar push like every year-end Academy-favoured film in years past.

I don't know if anyone brought this up, but the Oscars are Feb. 27th. They are voting sometime in the middle of January. With this film coming out on DVD just 2 weeks after the show and about a month and a week after the voting, the manufactuerers would have pressed the discs for distribution. This allows Miramax to send out copies of the film on DVD without fear of the dreaded 'screeners' being leaked to the internet as the Academy members vote.

I think they are trying to cut down on piracy. Also, they get 90% of the profits from people seeing the film after the Awards show, where as through theaters, being a film coming out in November, they would only get 40% of the profits.

Should I see this movie? Typically, I can never get enough Pan - but is this too much Pan at once? Kind of a meta-Pan?

I'd wager it's just the right amount of Pan. You get the inner workings of Pan, the mythos of Pan, and a pervading sense of Pan's insoucient whimsy.

Yeah but it's about wannabe-Pan writing about imagined Pan in order for he himself to be Pan and project the qualities and kindness of Pan onto others. That's some confusing Pan overload. As whimsical as it does seem, I think I'll pass for now.

You'll notice he is underage, and thus had his facial features blurred out of the scene. It was a big scandal at Cannes because with budget constraints they were not able to merely remove him from the film.

Better than Sideways, Eternal Sunshine, The Aviator, Kill Bill, Garden State, Million Dollar Baby, Closer, Life Aquatic, and Sea Inside?

I liked it, but it was not better than any of those that I've seen (Sw, ES, KB, GS, C). I usually don't go for sentiment, but this tugged at the tear strings a bit. Enjoyable movie.

Great news... loved this movie, been wanting to see it again, soon, at the show... and I certianly hope that Oscar recognizes it.
Tis my second fav of the year, I think, after Eternal Sunshine, and before Garden State... certianly much better, imo, than Sideways... but I know a lot of people liked that movie...

Doesn't seem like a bad strategy to me, if the movie gets some Oscar nominations. If it gets some big ones, they'll release it more widely.

I'd bet dollars to donuts Mirmax is putting off printing the final slipcovers until the nanosecond the Oscars are over. Then they can tout the number of awards it won, and if it wins no awards, it can at least print the number of nominations.

Once the noms come out, they'll photoshop every conceivable combination of winning on the cover so they're armed for bear.

Likewise, after the noms are announced, they'll produce an ad touting the noms, and have every possible combo for awards won produced and sent to affiliates. Once the awards are over, they'll swap out their nomination ad with the appropriate "winners" ad. Totally armed for bear.

And if it's totally shut out of the nominations, (which, knowing Miramaxs PR machine is unlikely) then Hell, it's still one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Keeping it in limited release will guarantee strong sales of the DVD. Since by this time theaters showing Neverland will keep half of a ticket price (the longer a movie is out in theaters, the less money-per-ticket the studio keeps), they'll probably make stronger sales and ultimately more money.

A calculated risk, but not completely stupid. THis is the kind of movie that often doesn't see an ultra-wide release until it gets some Awards, if not from the Academy, then every other year-end award hooplah.

Ive seen all of those minus Million Dollar Baby, Closer, Life Aquatic, and Sea Inside and Aviator.

Due to them not being out yet...well Closer is I guess.

Change mine to Best Film of the Year So Far. I do have a feeling itw ill be better than the films I mentioned above.

REVISED ARTWORK which i think is a bit better then the original poster art

. . . . . but it think Region 2 got the better cover in the end.

Just slighly. I love the image between them in the Region 2 art but i like the Region 1 image on the bottom of the cover.
