Die Hard Ultimate Collection

This 6-Disc box has been around for at least three years now, but I noticed the price was recently dropped to $40 cdn! So when I got home I went online and with a little research I discovered the set is $40 now everywhere...but the individual 2-Disc sets are going at about $25 a piece...(and at future shop a whopping $31 a flick)

Why is it that the box set is extremely cheap (for the 6 discs of jam packed material you recieve) but the individual discs are going for so much more money?

Also what is everyones thoguhts on this set? Is it worth a blind buy? (I've only seen the original on network TV)

Absolutely. Especially since it's almost Christmas time. It's one of the movies I always watch around Christmas (for obvious reasons if you seen it (or them))

Yes. Definitely a blind buy.

Picture and sound re-done for this release. Absolutely gorgeous. Both DD 5.1 and DTS options.

Excellent special features, including valuable deleted scenes, especially for "Die Hard With A Vengance" (alternative ending - much more satisfying in my opinion).

Bought this set a couple of years ago, double dipping on the original releases, and the difference is night and day.

Go get it now!

Dont bother as DH4 will be out soon and no doubt a better boxset will come out with good extras.

The current sets extras were good for 3 years ago but look shit now.

I don't quite understand this statement. How could they change?

DVD Soon has the newer set for about $30. Has anyone purchased from them?

Because the standard of dvd extras has gone up in the last 3 years that the current set looks weak and will no doubt be improved upon when DH 4 comes out.

These are still packed more then 90% of the DVDs out there. But I also don't agree that the standards have gone up. Most studios are slacking every way they can.

The extras get high marks from me, just for having that widescreen vs pan n scan segment.

Put it like this. If this set came out with these extras now people would compare it to other multi movie sets out now and it look poor.

And we all know a better one will be released when DH4 comes out so why bother with this set that everyone will be dumping in a years time ?

Well, with a hi def format looming just over the horizon, I don't think we'd see all new features for the other movies. I truly believe they'd just package the existing movies into a box with #4.
I can't see them going back and doing all new supplements, at least not before HD-DVD or Blu-Ray hits the market.

Well then, with that theory why bother buying any DVDs at all? In a little while a new/better format will be out and we all know that the movies will be re-released when the new format comes out. So really, it's just a waste of money to buy DVDs period. :p [/sarcasm]

What are you talking about? This set is probably one of the top 10 multi film box sets out there, and the extras are exactly the kinds I like to watch...I see how they could add more but it wouldn't be anything of interest to me

And DH4 probably wont happen for a lonnnnng time...maybe not at all...and the set is so damn cheap, and its selling like hot cakes. Yesterday when I first saw it, they had around 10 copies...today they only had 2.

P.S. I love that featurette that infroms people P&S completly sucks...

I know I'm just re-iterating other people's opinions here, but I gotta agree...

I love the Die Hard flicks, and when I saw it at Best Buy a few weeks back for a mere $35 it was hard to pass up. Definitely worth the price of admission. Die Hard definitely gets all the really good extras, but I was pretty happy with the extras on all three.

And again...for $35, who cares if they re-issue these in 3-4 years?

It's on the Die Hard extras disc...I don't remember exactly where, but yeah...it's pretty cool..

Don't know that it'd change anyone's mind (lets face it, P&S fans are a fairly deluded bunch to begin with ) but still very cool.

One thing that pissed me off about my set was that "Die Harder" (god I hate that subtitle) was fucked up. Disc one wasn't safely secured in its hub, so when I opened the case up it fell on the floor and its got alot of scrathes on it (but their not visible unless you hold the disc up to light so I'm guessing its gonna be ok? some confirmaton would be coo) And then my case was all smudged up and the top end of the cover art was sticking up so it got ripped to shreds!
And then the box that holds the discs has already smudged, scracthed and has a few small dents and gashes in it...in less then 24 hours!!!!
Oh well, I won't be using "Die Harder" that much anyway and the box is just a box Everything else was perfection...

It's on the Cutting Room section of the extras disc.

If the disc isn't working properly, you have every right to return it to point of purchase and ask for a replacement.

If you bought it at a big box store, chances are they'll be getting them again soon, should they be sold out.

I know you don't like the second movie (me, neither), but it's worth returning for a fresh one.

I paid $65 for my set, and then a few days later I saw it going for $35, and needless to say, I was bloody pissed. That said, it is a damn good collections, and well worth the high fee I paid for it. To those who do not yet own it, I would strongly advise you snap up this stunning set asap.

I just bought Die Hard 2 and 3 yesterday. The transfer for Die Hard with a Vengeance was pretty horrible for such a high profile release. It was rife with edge enhancement and scratches that made it look as if it had been made in the 70's. Very disappointing.
