Closer (Suberbit...?)
http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?...5722&n=1&burl=
take a look for yourself. It's because Mike Nichols films SCREAM "SuperBit"! I'm guessing then this will be like the releases for Adaptation and Panic Room, where the SuperBit is released first, then a loaded one down the road. (Although I'm still waiting for Adaptation.......)

looks like a definite double-dip. But the cinematography by Stephen Goldblatt is stunning and since this is my favorite film of last year, I'll be getting the first version that hits the streets. It will look great in Superbit.

This will probably be a blind buy for me. The trailer hooked me in and it's from a play by Patrick Marber who started out on such UK comedy classics as The Day Today and Knowing Me, Knowing you with Alan Partridge so I'm curious to see how someone from that side of the tracks gets stuck into some serious material like this.
Plus due to incessant home sickness any movie set in London gets my interest straight away ![]()

If you are going to use the poster art, might as well use what I think is one of the best Taglines ever, right behind 'In space, no one can hear you scream"

I feel--eh-- for mentioning this, because it really does not matter; but if you blind buy the film expecting something like that, you'll be disapointed.
Um...really? Man, that kinda sucks. I mean, I'm buying it anyway because several ppl who I know & trust their opinions saw it and said it was terrific, I just never got to the theater. The 'Natalie topless' thing was just kind of a bonus, I've been watching her movies ever since 'The Professional', but what, they cut it out? I mean, I know they cut out the full frontal, but even the topless? I guess she had second thoughts or something...oh well, I'll still buy it. ************************* DiScOrD tHe LuNaTiC The people who don't care will never understand the people who do...but we won't care. |

Picked this up today... haven't watched it yet, but the transfer is amazing (I always pop in new discs just to check them out real fast, but I might wait to actually watch them... odd?). can't wait to check it out, probably tomorrow night.
P.S. The music video is one awesome song. |

Along with Garden State, it's proof of her talent when it's not being heavilly sedated by George Lucas. Oh yeah, and those stripper scenes...? ![]() Very good movie. I'll probably wait for the inevitable "2-for-$20" deal at Best Buy in a few months before I make a purchase.

Also, she was fucking wonderful in Garden State. She knew what the role was and performed it exactly the way it should have been done, making almost any man who watched the movie fall in love with her, something we had to do to feel the emotion in the flick. |

I'm in the Natalie fan club; imo, she's slowly emerging as one of our best young actresses. Closer, Garden State, and even her small role in Cold Mountain (she was shattering in that, devastating)-- I'm really looking forward to what she'll do in the future. And I so agree; am very glad that George Lucas hasn't smothered here ability.

Just watched this tonight; for the first time. Wow! Ms Portman is turning into a wonderful actress. Could Clive Owen be the UK's answer to Colin Farrell I feel. This film is also the perfect antidote to the Farce that Alfie was for Jude Law in both ways.

I really cannot believe we all saw the same movie!? How can anyone explain these huge discrepencies in our opinions? You would think that the caliber of an actor would be thought relatively similarly by most people. It is so hard for me to comprehend how anyone could actually find her perfomance in this movie better than awful.

Finally watched the flick, and God damn was it BRILLIANT. Like... amazing. Best film I've seen in a DAMN long time, and with winners like Sin City and Full Frontal in the recent past, that's saying something. Not only did it hit home in a lot of ways, a lot of feelings, but it also was just damn entertaining and powerful on it's own. For anyone ever in love in any way who lost it, I can't picture this as anything less than a masterpiece. |

I am not quite sure why you have been so hostile throughout this discussion. Why do you care to such an extent that it seems necessary to you to respond in such glib, unproductive, bullshit responses. Are you related to Natalie Portman? My question still holds because I am actually confused by this bizarre conundrum of our drastic opinions on the actress.

Did I respond like that? I don't think so. As a matter of fact,. other than the obviously in jest "insane" remark, I don't what the fuck else in this entire thread could even be thought of as "hostile". Get back to me on that, please. I'm rather confused. As for Portman, I don't know what reasons you want from me, but I'll tell you the scenes that blew me away and why. The scene where she knows her boyfriend was acting weird about the photographer, and you can see it in her face even though her actions gave nothing away. The scene where she is attracted to Owen's character and knows her relationship is over, so she considers going after him, only to turn away in hurt and shame because of where her life is at. The scene where Jude Law breaks up with her and goes through an entire range of emotions from rage to desperate need of love, finally to disgust. I've ben through a few of the scenes well enough to know she acted her ass off in all of them, and she felt very real, a true character. |

My mistake. Without tone of voice to aid my inferences, all your replies have been defensively defiant and rudely vague. To say someone is insane and just repeat the opposite of what was said is neither obviously in jest nor particularly insightful. A waste of space and unnecessarily inflamitory.
I really would have to see the movie again to give you specifics into why I didn't like her performance. Since I didn't like the movie, I don't see that happening any time soon. I do remember the scene at the end though with Jude Law and didn't feel any of those emotions she supposedly went through. She seemed to caught up in being an actress and not being a character. To me her whole performance was just fake, while all the other characters I believed. |

I may not have poured out the reasons why I loved the performance until later, but it's not like you said much more than "she sucked in it" either. I can respect your opinion it wasn't that good, or not Oscar worthy, but horrible? You need to explain that one. |
