Ocean's Twelve on 4/12

i have ocean's eleven but i'm not so sure i'm interested in this one. it would be a blind buy for me.

as for the coverart, all i can say is its a (slight) improvement on ocean's eleven ... maybe.

Blah. The theatrical art was far superior. So was the original film.

I only count 8. Make that 6, since two of them aren't part of the "12".

Don't worry. In the film you barely saw 12 either. It could have been called Ocean's Two and been more accurate. Ugh...

Mine can. The movie was nothing like the original, which was a fun caper movie with mission impossible infulences and a great cast that each got the spotlight in their own way.

Ocean's 12 is a drama with very little humor and no great caper antics worth noting. The surprises are lame and contrived, and only 4 or 5 of the 12 get enough screen time (one of them too much screen time).

A good movie I will own, but nothing like the first and nowhere near as good.

Ocean's 11 - 9 out of 10

Ocean's 12 - 7 out of 10

7 out of 10 is more generous than I could ever be. If I gave it more than a 5 I'd feel like I was giving to charity.

i think the fact that its Soderbergh and the cinematography and stuff was so great, that i liked it more than i probably would have.

it wasnt as good as the first one, but i liked the style and stuff a lot more.

/ 5

also, Bernie Mac is on the cover and he is in maybe five minutes. Put Affleck on the front!

I think Cheadle is in it even less.

To giver Soderbergh some credit though, it must be hard to get 13 movie stars together to do one film where it's obvious Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts will get 90% of the credit and screen time.

He managed it in the first one, Moogle, and he also managed to add in plenty of cool style and relaxed energy. Ocean's Eleven was spectacularly smooth and fun. Twelve was not, and was in fact the opposite. Gods, just thinking about how much I disliked it is getting my ulcer up...

Soderberg association does not save this film. While the cinematography and flow of the film are good, the story lacks any heart. It is a total shotgun effect; throw as much random shit at the viewer and some of it will stick.

The original was classic storytelling. Give us the lead character and have us follow him as he introduces us to the rest of the players. In this one, Soderberg wouldn't be able to do that and seemed perplexed by it.

The introduction of the 'European character' lacked any real meaning or purpose. Characters did not really develop any further than the first film, and some of the things that made the first one great (Caan and Afflack interaction, tightly run cons, and snappy dialogue) were ditched.

I was utterly disappointed in this film. While it was watchable and enjoyable, it was far from meeting expectations.

I agree totally here, I just think the movie still has merit. It is no doubt a totally different film than the original, and is less enjoyable, but I wouldn't classify it as bad.

Honestly I'm hoping it's one of those films that is better on the second go-round, especially since I plan on buying it. If it's the same or worse, I'll admit to being screwed

Well that sucks. In this day and age, a $100+ million-grossing hit doesn't even get a commentary and/or featurette? And Soderbergh does such great commentaries, too. Drat...

I absolutely adored Ocean's Twelve. Great soundtrack, great cinematography and terrific editing. I also loved all the hip little in-jokes that seemed to rub most folk the wrong way.

A very worthy sequel.

I didn't like Ocean's Twelve. I don't think I'll get the DVD, even though I own the first one. The cover is really bad. George Clooney looks like he's doing his best impression of a flamingo. Just put both his feet on the ground.

Loved the first one.

Loved the concept for this one. How could they go wrong: the villain from the first wants his money back. Solution: raid the gambling joins of Europe. Throw into the mix: a rival theif, out for his own reveng on Danny and the gang.

What a set up! Brilliant!

So...what happened? No color, no life, not much fun (Bruce Willis looked frankly embarassed to be there) and none of the comeraderie of the original.

Ocean's Two (and a half) does suit it better as a title. Major dissapointment!

No DVD sale for me either.

I bought this one blind, one of the worst blind buys yet(Fortress 2 still being #1). It was so bland I barely remember it, I couldn't tell you what it was about to save my life. The first one needed no sequal.

But it did have the scene where they squeeze the little asian guy into the suitcase.
How awsome was that?

Heh, see, I remember almost nothing about it. Just a weird French guy doing a dance to bypass an alarm, Andy Garcia looking very stiff, and Julia Roberts.

I think the beginning of the movie was great and then things went downhill rather quickly.

I'm glad I rented this puppy...

It appears Clooney and crew are working on Oceans 13. I sure hope the story line and script are a little better.

Oceans 12 made enough money to justify carrying this crap on for a third?

There's a handfull of movies that were able to recapure the magic of the first.

Lethal Weapon 2
BTTF 2
The Jack Ryan series
TLOTR
to name a few

It's a tough thing to do. I recall an interview with Nick Nolte on a Barbara Walters special saying that by the time they did the second 48 hours it was all about the money.

Good sequels are becoming more frequent these days with movies like Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potters, Spider-Man..etc. That's partly because there's a lot of source material to pull from and partly because the people who are making the movies really care about the quality of the work. I didn't get the impression from watching Oceans Twelve they cared a bit about how good the movie was, they were just there to have fun and collect a paycheck.

I really enjoyed the first one, while the 2nd one was still pretty good, but seemed to missing some playfulness and comedy that the first film had. The whole Julia Roberts looks like Julia Roberts gag was just a bit too stupid. I think if the writers had come up with a better idea for the heist than that gag, it would've worked better. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Catherine Zeta-Jones added to the cast, as she had great on-screen chemisty with Brad Pitt.
