True Lies

Can anyone tell me if True Lies is going to get any kind of re-release.

I know the original is non-anamorphic and theres no extras (trailer?) and i don't want to get it now and then have a anamorphic/Spec.Ed. come out soon after.

Can anyone help?

I haven't heard anything on a re-release so you should be safe.

Of course, getting it now means you'll be able to watch Jamie Lee do that dance super slow and super clear.

And listen to some lovely Dolby Digital 5.1 explosions and soundstage use.

Guard : "Sir, can I see your invitation please?"
Arnie : "Sure, here is my invitation.."

(BOOOOMM!)

Scottie peels self off wall. In all seriousness, it doesn't look like it's going to be obsolete for a while yet.

Bye!

With Fox doing anamorphic and DTS reissues, I'd say this is a prime candidate for it. The only reason I own it was that I was able to pick it up for $8.

True Lies 5-Star Collection?

Has anyone heard anything on the previously-announced (this was a while back, maybe a year or two ago?) 5-Star Edition of True Lies? After the re-issue was announced, it just disappeared off all the upcoming release lists. The anamorphic dts edition of True Lies is coming out in Japan next month: http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...249779-9543574

I'm considering buying the Jpns one if the U.S. one is delayed indefinitely, but I just wanted to make sure...

They were going to do a special edition. Then 9/11 happened and suddenly it seemed in bad taste. That probably means we've got another two years before it gets released.

Cameron seems to be going through his movies on DVD & laying down commentaries etc, so i'm pretty sure there'll be a new SE somewhere down the line.

Especially with Schwarzenegger being a hot property again. His rise in visibility with the one-two punch of T3 and then as California's new Governor makes his catalogue attractive again.

You think so? Even with the less then luke-warm reception T3 recieved during it's box office run?

Yeah, because the marketing push was GIGANTIC. And the push for the DVD is probably the biggest ad campaign I've seen for a non-Disney home video release. It is on everyone's tongues, and I'm sure a lot of folks were waiting for the video release to see it. Look for the T3 disc to do very well. It won't break any records, but it will move a lot of units. Remember, when T3 was in theaters, Arnold wasn't running for governor. Now, the curiosity factor will branch into even non-fans of the series.

And TRUE LIES, considered one of Arnold's better films, is just sitting there... BEGGING for an SE release. I think Anold-mania will push aside any concerns over sensitivity towards terrorism and 9/11 and get that release out while the iron is still hot.

The D-VHS version of True Lies is coming out on December 16. Hopefully this means that an SE DVD is around the corner.

Fox no longer does any 5-Star Edition DVD's of their movies anymore. Announced almost a year ago and was very sad news to hear

Lets hope for a cool Digi Pak release with a 2nd disc of extras and stuff.

Super 35 blues...

If you are out to watch Jamie Lee Curtis' dance as a way of facilitating twisting your wrist, then you are advised to avoid open-matte versions of the movie, as it allows you to see her cellulite in all its unfettered glory.

Curtis is not shy about how her advancing years have taken their toll on her shapely form, as that photo shoot she did not long ago set out to prove, but the unmasked Super 35 print of True Lies shatters illusions like shoddily-made windows near a car-bomb.

Bummer.

Hmm... All of that sound good. How are the transfer qualities of Jpns dvd's in general? I ask because in general Chinese dvd's seem to be of less than stellar quality when it comes to transfers and soundmixes (with one recent exception being Zhang Yimou's Hero, and I'm sure there are others). And I just recently bought a Korean R3 dts edition of Nid de guepes, which turned out to have a terrible transfer (soft blurry picture, washed-out saturation, PAL-NTSC ghosting), as compared to the R2 French version of the movie, which had tip-top pictures and sound. I ended up returning the dvd and getting the PAL R2 French version.

I'm just wondering whether Jpn is different from some of these other Asian countries when it comes to dvd authoring (as far as quality). I've not seen that many Jpns dvd's, but a couple that I did watch didn't seem that great in transfer qualities (I've seen R2 Returner and Tokyo.Sora)--both native Jpns movies. Would the quality be different for an American movie, since maybe the American studios get involved? How have your experiences been with Jpns dvd's? I'm trying to avoid wasting $30 on the Jpns True Lies dvd, if it turns out to be less than great.

I live in the U.K but always prefered R1 DVD's as i dont like PAL speedup but lately i have been purchasing a lot of Korean/HongKong (R3 ntsc) and Japanese (R2 ntsc) i have found without exception that the picture is as good as R1 or even better and as far as the audio is concerned they blow the R1 versions away.Prime example is the Terminator 3 R3 dvd, the dts soundtrack WOW!!!!! we are talking brown trouser time.As for the Jurassic Park SuperBit HIDE !!theres a large reptile in my living room.Plus if you purchase a R3 SuperBit you will find that is ALL REGION so you dont even need to convert your dvd player.

I read a transcript of talk with Van Ling and he said they were to work on it but that's about it.

Last I heard, a True Lies SE was scheduled to be released in early 2004. I'd definitely hold off on picking up the current version.
