Bring It On vs Battlefield Earth

Which do you think is better? I actually liked "Bring It On". Of course, I took my brain out before watching it but I enjoyed it anyway. I thought the DVD itself ("Bring It On") was of EXCELLENT quality.....

Peace....

No question, Bring It On is better than Battlefield Earth.

Okay, so I haven't even seen Battlefield Earth, but I have seen Bring It On and it is one of the better quality DVDs in my collection (not that I have a huge collection at circa 85 discs), in terms of video and audio quality. It's one of my favourite dts discs - the audio during the cheer sequences is just phenomenal. It's a fun movie, it doesn't pretend to carry a huge message, so for a frolliking fun time, Bring It On delivers.

So I guess you could say I liked it...

Just going by the critial summaries over at RottenTomatoes.com, 53% of critics gave a favorable rating to Bring it On, while only 6 % gave Battlefield Earth a good rating.

Bring it On is a far supierior movie with a better plot, better acting, better music, better credits at the beginning at the end, better sound, better picture, better case, better inserts, better label and most CERTAINLY...better breasts.

Deepfry -

I don't mean to be funny but -

"No question, Bring It On is better than Battlefield Earth.
Okay, so I haven't even seen Battlefield Earth..."

How on Earth can you make a statement like that eh?!?!

You may well be right but to say the above is just plain silly.

Why even compare the two? Bring It On schools Battlefield Earth in every category; including special effects. Because I consider what Dunst has to be very special.

Definately Bring It On. For one, Battlefield Earth is crap, and two, Peyton Reed is a cool guy (with his involvement in BTTF Parts 2 & 3, of course).

No offense Tom, but why did you even think to compare these two?

One is Sci-Fi, one is comedy. One is aimed at teens, one is aimed at...well, I have no idea what the target demographic was for Battlefield Earth. One was heavy on special effects, one was not. One was filled with action and violence and 'splosions, one was fairly calm.

They are just so different in every way, so why the comparison? I mean, it's not like they are both considered guilty pleasures. One got pretty good reviews and a good response from audiences and one was universally panned.

And, uh, to get back on topic: I liked Bring It on to begin with, but it's Citizen Kane compared to Battlifield Earth.

I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to Battlefield Earth. The first one wasn't as bad as the critics made it out to be. Now Blair Witch 2 was a STINKER!

What I like was I read she said she has no problems doing nudity as long as it's tasteful and necessary to the story.

Somebody needs to hurry up and write a story for her where it's tasteful and necessary.

None taken. I was just curious as to whether people thought this was any better/worse than Battlefield Earth, that's all.

I know they are from different genres (wow a BIG word!), but in the simplest of terms a good movie is a good movie and a bad movie is a bad movie.

I wasn't trying to really compare the two movies so I apologize if that was communicated by my original post.

Peace....

"All right, I've had about enough. Where did this Battlefield Earth bashing bandwagon come from? What is everyone's problem?
Travolta's performance in Battlefield Earth was top notch. Obviously you spent a little too much time watching other portions of the screen, watch his face. He is one of the best actors going. And to go with it, the movie itself is unreal. "Bring it On" tasteless T & A, ha.

That movie could easily be a porno video on their efforts at exposing gratuitous nudity. Not an epic.

This post makes no sense, but I'm done. I have no patience for any of you people anymore. That is why I never post. I read these messsages every day and I've decided that most (not all) of you are a pack of morons who can't think for themselves. Jump on the bandwagon, it's rolling this way. If this offends you, take a number. I'm offended every day with these mindless posts.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way Hank. Unfortunately, I think the vast majority of people will say that BFE was a piece of junk. And Travolta's over the top villian is one of the often cited horrid aspects. In the end, whatever floats your boat. Obviously, you liked BFE. Apparently you're one of the few. You've stated as such, so what's the problem? Others are just voicing their opiions too.

OK, wait. I'm confused Hank. What were you trying to say/quote from that last post? I didn't realize some of it was Jenkins post from another thread. It's a little hard for me to follow in it's current form.

Hank, if you happen to read this I want to apologize for stirring up such a storm with this post. Apparently, I wasn't thinking when I decided to post the original message.

I can completely understand how you feel as I feel the same about the recent Gladiator "bashing" with regard to the Oscars.

The very LAST thing I ever want to do is offend or piss-off ANY of the other posters, but I don't always succeed at doing that.

Again, please accept my deepest apology.

I'm very, very sorry......

Peace.....

Thanks for the clarification, Tom, and glad you weren't offended. I was just genuinely amused and curious as to why these two were in the same thread together. I was like, "What caused him to select these two to be put together in a thread?"

Hank, first of all, I don't have to be told or read another review to know that Battlefield Earth--from the acting to the special effects to the make-up to the choice of costumes to the book it was based on--sucked huge ass. I don't think it's so much everyone jumping on the bandwagon, though I am sure there are people who are jumping just for the sake of running with the pack, but it's more a case of Battlefield Earth being so bad that it can be almost universally agreed upon that it was one of the worst movies ever.

I'll grant you that Travolta can be a good actor, I like him in a lot of stuff, but not in this movie and not with that bad of a script.

(One side note: Dude better start selecting better movies pronto because after his string of major flops and just downright terrible films--ignoring how they did at the box officfe--he's gonna need another Tarentino Ressurection...and I'm not sure either of them is up to that task again.)

As far as Bring It On, nobody said it was an epic, as you seemed to have gleaned from this thread, just that it was an enjoyable movie and certainly better than Battlefield Earth.

Also, while Bring It On did have a T&A factor, it was Clueless-like in its humor, thus it was wholeheartedly worthwhile. Plus, what is wrong with T&A? Regardless, the presence of T&A in Bring It On doesn't make Battlefield Earth any less sucky.

And you really hurt your argument when you start saying stuff like, "It had nudity and is reminiscent of porn" because you are then both lying and exaggerating...characteristics which only serve to negate any points you may have during the course of any debate, be it this one or another one.

Tyler:

Sorry that my post didn't come across as tongue-in-cheek as it was intended to be. I was joking (as I thought the spirit of the thread was going to be a little lighthearted fun, seeing as in general most people consider BFE to be the worst movie of 2000 and BIO is a light-hearted teen comedy in the vein of Clueless (good call on that one Rock), and I thought that it would come through. Sorry.

Hank: I sure hope your post was in jest. Just a little fun-poking at Jenkin's remarks, and not how you truly feel. That would suck if we lost you as a member of this forum.

I think we all need to lighten up a bit, folks. Hell, if I took all the shots made at The Phantom Menace personally, I'd never logon to the forum either, I suppose. But I recognize that people have their opinions, and that they don't always match up with mine. This doesn't mean that my likes and opinons are worthless (Watch it, Rocky.. ), it just means that they're mine.

Of course it was all a jest. I amused myself but have to apologize to whoever took that post seriously. Its all in good humor folks. I looked at the screennames and recongnized the majority of you and figured most of you read that Jenkins post and would find some humor in it. Click on that link and you'll see what I mean.

BFE - i liked it as a horrid piece of 70 million dollar crap. It should play to 12:00 am crowds were everyone can dress up a la Rocky Horror.

Tyler:

thanks. that means a lot.

Personally, I liked the dts a lot better than the dolby on Bring It On. Mind you, the dts track is much louder than the dolby track, but at similar levels, I still feel the dts is better - it seems to be more enveloping. Of course I could be (most likely am) highly biased, but still, the dts seems better to me.
