I can't wait to have this one. I know alot of people that really didn't like this movie. I Don't know why. A guy at work walked out of it half way through. I'm a huge Hanks fan so maybe I'm biased.

Yeh but were the hour they cut out. I was really hoping for a directors cut and think one will be eventually released. They did cut some 50 min of island scenes that I was told were interesting scenes. They said 2 hours on the island would've been to long scenes like Hanks testing the rope etc.., This is one of those movies were I want those scenes.

...so wait for the 'ultimate', two-disc, deluxe SE that will surely come out someday...

...oh, and by the way, the movie's title is Cast Away (two words), not 'Castaway'... he mumbled, having turned on his pedantic mode...

. . .

Really? Becuase one of the things that made me just like the movie and not love it was I thought that they spent too little time on the island. Longer time would have made more of an impact.

To me, the only good parts of the movie were the ones where he was on the island. I'd be interested to see more of the island.

I really thought that everything after he got home was useless, and way too drawn-out. But when he was on the island it was quite compelling.

I also really hated the trailer for the movie, they really shouldn't have given away the ending. Maybe that's what contributed to my disliking of the third act. Then again, maybe it didn't.

I have a question. The DVD states that it is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. I thought a movie like this would be filmed in 2.35:1. Was anyone else hoping that this would be (was) the case?

I like the 1.85:1 'Cause I still just have a crappy 26" TV.

Man that Ben Hur at 2.78 was a killer. I had to pull the couch up a little closer. I think I had a strip about 8" high in the middle of the screen.

Snake:

Yes, in one way it is strange that the movie was not filmed in 2.35:1 in order to get some of the great vista shots that the island would have afforded.

It has generally been agreed upon though, that 1.85:1 was used so that the framing would allow for better closeups of Tom Hanks facial expressions.
