The Universal Intro - Why So Ugly?

So every Universal movie you buy these days has their little into movie that shows clips of their latest and not-so-latest releases coming to DVD.
The sound is decent, my sub-woofer gets a little work out during the whole thing but the quality of the picture is absolutly horrid.

If they are going to place these kind of adds on their DVD's, (which I don't mind watching from time to time) can't they at least make them look better? It's like watching a commercial on broadcast television.

Ugly, stupic, unecessary. I don't know why they put these things here. Especially with the subpar quality that you mention, it makes Universal look cheesy.

They gave us $5 for breakfast. Man, I hope this trial never ends!

I hate those things. Was cute the first time but now I always skip them. This reminds me of something else too...Warner really needs to remaster their FBI warnings...those things look awful!

I also hate them. They aren't even anamorphic, and what I can't figure out is why they don't use the REAL clips (I mean, bit-for-bit copies of what is on the actual DVD's). These clips are trying to sell us more DVD's, so show them to us!

Yes, a good point. Are these inferior looking versions supposed to inspire us to buy the DVD's? Because that quality would make a person think twice. Not to mention that it's sort of annoying to see an add for a movie in front of that exact movie. For example, the 'trailer' in front of Bring It On heavily features Bring It On. Duh! I already purchased it numbnuts! Just what I want to see years from now every time I watch Bring It On, a commercial for Bring It On!

A very valid point, however I don't think you can have too much Kirsten Dunst though.

Note that Fox does the same thing with their fox dvd intro (mind you it's at the start of the dvd instead of the start of the movie), but they're both annoying.

The problem for me is that I like the music that plays behind it, so I want to watch it for the music, but the visuals just suck.

What I really hate about Universal is that they put their logo in front of movies they didn't make!!!

Every time I want to watch my favorite movie of last year, "American Psycho", I have to fast forward through the Universal logo because I hate it so much!!! Lions Gate released the movie, NOT UNIVERSAL!

Universal had distribution rights to that film for video and DVD. I didn't see the movie in the theaters so I don't know if Universal had their logo on it then.

I notice on some Universal DVD's that the color is off. Like when it shows footage from "The Mummy" I see a lot of red or blue. My tv has nothing to do with it. Cause the rest of the movie looks fine.

Don't worry, it's not your TV - the studios often do this on purpose. They tint their logos to fit the mood of the movie (Gladiator and The Matrix come to mind).
I think we even had a thread about this a couple weeks ago if you want to do a search for it, I think it was called "Custom Fanfares" or something.
