Das Boot: Subtitles...?

Has anyone here got the new non-flipper R1 version of this title (or maybe even the R1 flipper)? If so... What are the English subtitles like?

On my R2 version they stink!

During the films many slow moments (like at the captains table near the beginning) they show like two lines of dialogue... even though they are like 5-6 seconds apart...

It's REALLY annoying to watch... as you have to wait for the actor to say the line you've already read! It completely throws off the timing of the movie!

Plus several lines are cut because the subtitles aren't quick enough to put them in!

Arrgghhh! Bad subs suck!

Can anyone tell me if their R1 has the same, or (hopefully) better subs on it?

Cheers,
~ John

i have Das Boot and i remember watching it dubbed and with the subtitles on when i first got it to see how different the translations were and they were miles apart. it was hilarious. not just whole phrases changed but whole ideas and sentences. haven't watched it in a while though.

Hmm, I know this is going to sound like a really stupid thing to say.. so

DISCLAIMER: Anything I say below is probably crap.

Watch it in English 5.1. It's an excellent dub, with all of the original principle actors playing their parts. And the soundstage is simply terrific too.

Arghh! How could they do this?? The subtitles are a major part of a foreign language DVD -- and considering what they did with them on the Ghostbusters DVD commentary, there appears no reason why they shouldn't have been flawless!

Oh, and thanks Scottie, but no thanks!
