DVDs you bought because you worked near the set

Just picked up The Sixth Day (excellent film btw) dvd today because last year I walked through the main set (hq, helicopter, party and lab scenes) everyday for 3 months while going to work in Vancouver (West Georgia ST).

Anyone else buy a dvd/movie due to living/working in the same location as the film?

Other films/tv shows I saw were Dark Angel (Vancouver Art Gallery), Seven Days (VAG too), The Outer Limits, See Spot Run and a few more I can't remember now.

btw: I also got a kick out the latest Seagal movie as they filmed a good part of it in downtown Calgary.

Well, I plan to buy "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
(rented the DVD a while back).
I live in southwestern Utah in the same county where much of the movie was shot (near Zion National Park).
The main reason I will be buying it, though is that it is an outstanding film.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area so sometimes we're a kind of a mini Hollywood. Lots of movies have been filmed in this area. Off the top of my head I remember all the Dirty Harry's (San Francisco, Santa Cruz...) Parts of Terminator 2 (Fremont), Bedazzled (San Francisco, Oakland), Sneakers (San Francisco, Fremont), Parts of The Matrix 2 will be filmed (or is being filmed) in Oakland. The Don Johnson/Cheech Marin show is filmed in San Francisco, The Lost Boys (Santa Cruz)

The list goes on and on.

Living in Northeast PA we haven't had a lot of films shot here and the two best known ones- The Molly Maguires and That Championship Season- aren't out yet. Lucky Numbers was shot near my folks in Harrisburg, PA and I worked on that (See topic I started on that film) but it stunk so bad I'm not going to bother. . .

I have to say I never actually saw the movie, but Buffalo 66 was filmed around here. I live about an hour or so away from where it was shot.

I'm originally from Norfolk, Virginia, so the best I could get is NAVY SEALS!!

(OOOOHH! NAVY SEALS!)

Oh well, at least U-571 has some stuff at the Portsmouth shipyard....even though it was clearly a sound stage.

P.S. - I don't own Navy SEALS. I don't know why, but I had to make sure I said that

I live near Knutsford in Cheshire in the UK, scenes for "Empire Of The Sun" were filmed here and some in Chinatown in Manchester(UK).
The great man himself was also present at the shooting locations.

Hi!

I live in Hamburg. A friend of mine lives right next to the Hotel Atlantic, where some scenes from "Tomorrow Never Dies" were shot. It's funny watching the movie having actually been in those streets many times.

Hey!

El Paso, TX here so my list isn't exactly long, but as a kid in Middle School and High School I remember crews shooting "Extreme Prejudice" with Nick Nolte (I was an extra in the airport) and "The Border" with Jack Nicholson - I have no idea if these "gems" are even available on DVD as of yet.

More recently, a friend and I worked on "Last Man Standing" in the desert just outside of town (got to meet Chris Walken!!) and "Traffic" had a very hush-hush five day shoot that most of us who work on films around here didn't even know about 'til they left town!

Superman III was filmed in Calgary. I walk down many of the streets everyday where the comedic action sequence at the beginning of the movie was done.

I used to bartend in a restaurant that was featured in the Burt Reynolds, Goldie Hawn movie "Best Friends". But I don't even think that movie is available on VHS, much less DVD!

X-Men had a lot of filming in and around Toronto (Xavier's school is actually Casteloma).

Johnny Mnemonic had a few scenes that took place in Union Station in Toronto, and the Big Hit was filmed in and around Toronto (among many others, those are the ones that come to mind right now)

muppets from space and (don't gag) elmo in grouchland. aside from liking the muppets, i was an "additional puppeteer" on both movies and a blink-of-the-eye extra on the sesame street set.

(Pilot to bombardier...pilot to bombardier...drop names...NOW!!!)

(high-pitched whistling sound effect)

I grew up in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, right next to Leonardo & Red Bank, and went to high school with Kevin Smith, so his movies are on my shelf, including, of course, Clerks & Chasing Amy. Every so often, aside from Silent Bob, I'll see other people I knew in his movies and I usually think 1: "Good for them," and 2: "Bad for me!" LOL

There was also a HORRIBLE Psycho ripoff filmed in my hometown when I was a kid: "Don't Go In The House." They used the big spooky house on top of Mount Ave as their Bates Manor. It has since been beautifully renovated and is now kind of a town museum, but man it scared the shit out of me when I was a kid, and that movie didn't make me sleep any easier Some rinky-dink company did what looks like a laserdisc-to-DVD transfer, no extras, only 2 chapters (side 1 & side 2 perhaps?). I watched it a lot as a kid, it was a cable staple for a while, but I haven't sat through the entire DVD yet. BE warned, if you find it, the misogyny in this movie makes Bloodsucking Freaks look like a Very Special Episode of Sisters.

I used to pick up my wife's car from the garage in Bethesda, Md., where they filmed the scene with Julia Roberts in The Pelican Brief.

It was a weird situation where I had to perform some tasks in Bethesda during the day, and my wife worked there, so I took the Metro (subway) to Bethesda, borrowed her car, and then returned it to the garage before she finished her workday. The filming happened at night, so they were gone from the garage by the time she parked.

They also shot a few things in the immediate vicinity during the day, though I never saw any celebs. Also, I didn't buy this movie. Just didn't like it that much.

I was an extra in two movies. One That Championship Season you can actually see me, I was like...seven years old. The other was I was at the Oriole's Tiger's game when Kevin Klien threw out the first pitch for that short sequence in Dave. You can't see me in that one . Not really an auspicious acting carreer.

My grandfather used to work in a building in downtown Washington, DC, and he was there when they wer filming "The Pelican Brief". Once the movie was released on VHS, I rented it and I wasn't all that impressed so I think a DVD purchase is out of the question for me.

Another wierd thing about Washington, DC and movies. I was recently visiting my grandparents in Alexandria, VA, and went to see "Arlington Road" in D.C. Pretty wierd, considering there's a huge chase and explosion scen set right near where I was seeing the movie! Around this time, on the news all you would hear about is "Blair Witch Project", becuase it was filmed in Maryland, and the locals kept going on about how it was "the scariest movie ever"

Thanx,
Brook

Well out in Kalamazoo, MI they don't film too many major movies. BUT having said that, there are 4 flicks I might get for the reason of "being there":
1. Contentental Divide - although part of this was filmed in Kalamazoo at our train station, they covered up all the city references and said it was Iowa or something.
2. Eight Men Out - was actualy in Cincinati at the old hotel while they were filming. Heard stories of clerks not realizing some of the stars who were checking in....
3. Enigma - Filmed all in Strasbourg, France at the University (although it was supposed to be East Berlin....), I studied at the college for 6 months and saw the movie later and said, Hey I was there!
4.

Thanks.

I grew up on the south side of Chicago, in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The university in Raiders of the Lost Ark and When Harry Met Sally is the U of Chicago, very close to my house. I'm sure there are plenty of other scenes shot there. Endless Love was made in Hyde Park. The lab in Flatliners is the Museum of Science and Industry, which I go to used to every day in the summer (before they started charging admission). The "Nazis on the bridge" scene in Blues Brothers is in Hyde Park.

But I would never buy a movie simply because it was filmed in a place I lived near or worked near. That's just silly.

I live in a podunk little town in Southern California called Hemet. Rather insignificant place, but while seeing Almost Famous in the theatres, in the scene where they pick Russell up from the party and the next shot shows the rear of the bus, there's a bumper sticker that says Hemet is Heaven. I did a little checking, and this sticker was given out by one of the banks here in the early to mid 70s, so it's an awful big coincidence if it was not placed there intentionally. Hemet isn't more than an hour and a half from San Diego where Crowe grew up.
