Ocean's Twelve DVD (ign review)

IGN reviewed Ocean's Twelve last night and it was pretty sad from the movie itself to the lac/no extra's. :flush:

I didn't know that the only Feature was the Theatrical Trailer? Either way, I love the movie and I pre-ordered it from Columbia House a few weeks ago.

What is up with WB... Not good.

Yeah, both the IGN and DVD Town reviews were basically the same. And unless there was like a commentary from Soderbergh, I doubt I'd watch any of the extras anyways.

I'm in a minority of people who actually thought it was great and will be happy to add it to my collection.

I don't really watch video extras, so I don't really give a shit. I'll just consider it a superbit style release and assume it has great picture quality. I find it funny you don't mention ANY other aspects of the review or the movie, just "no extras".

I WILL say however that Soderbergh does really good commentary, and if I thought I would get around to listening to it anytime soon I would be dissapointed a track wasn't included.

Seeing as how this release will be completely bare-bones (a trailer should be obligitory, not an "extra" ), and the movie itself wasn't nearly as good as the original (which was probably my favorite film of 2001), I think I'll pass until it shows up in one of Best Buy's "2 for $20" deals in about three months. Ocean's 12 was entertaining, but I don't have to have it right now. Plus, if there's any chance of a Soderbergh yack-track, I'll wait.

While the movie's the most important thing, I love extras & this sucks. With a cast of characters like this movie has they've gotta have tons of shit, Clooney's practcal jokes onset could probably fill a disc. I'm gonna sit back like I did with I, Robot, Day After Tomorrow & Man On Fire & get the SE that you KNOW is gonna eventually come. If down the road it never does go SE I'll get it cheap. This screams "we'll get you twice" & I'm getting tired of it. A friggin' trailer, give me a break (& NO commentary).

I have no problem selling it, if/when the Collector's Edition comes out.

I agree with all you said there-- I loved it and will be buying it, but I rarely do watch extras anymore. The last extras I watched were last night, with the Donnie Darko DC, but before that the last I watched were Eternal Sunshine's the day it came out (original release).

Great movie, and I was looking forward to buying it. Guess I'll rent it now and wait until they release a new version (which seems pretty obvious at this point).

I like owning the definitive version of a film if its good enough, and this version seems pretty pathetic.

I couldn't agree more. Unless they have a half dozen features hidden as unfound yet Easter Eggs, this release leaves a ton to be desired. Who releases a major movie with no features these days?

People who want to capitolize on the public by hoping they buy this release and then create a feature packed extra special super edition, with DTS, later, in hopes that those same people will "double dip" and shell out more money on the same movie.

Not me. I'll get this el'cheapo version and be happy.

You've got them pegged exactly right, Vonner. I'm just going to take the opposite tack & wait for the feature packed extra special super edition, with DTS, later. If you're not into bonus features a lot this one will do you great, but I love 'em. At least it looks like we're 2 of the people that won't get hoodwinked into double dipping on this title.

I too will be waiting for the SE of the film. You just know something will be released sometime this year i would think. Exorcist: The Beginning even got extras and a DTS track form WB and Ocean's 12 got jack shit. So you know something is in the pipes.

I'm really conflicted... I usually don't care about features, buy superbits instead of SE's, stuff like that... Unfortunately though, Soderbergh is one of my favorite directors, and his commentary tracks usually kick ass, which makes me want to wait.

Damn decisions.

Is there even a rumor of a second release? This is Warner Bros and they're not known for double dipping that often and when they do it usually for bigger titles or older releases that could use an upgrade. The Ocean's 11 remake didn't have much in the way of extras either and since this one didn't do as well I can sort of understand them making it bare bones.

I saw it today at Wal-Mart with an exclusive bonus disc with making of footage. How fucking horrible is that? No features at all on the regular DVD, but a store exclusive bonus DVD.

Anyway, I decided not to buy it until it was cheaper.

Got a rental of it last night and thought it was one of the biggest pieces of shit movies I ever saw. It wasn't even worthy of being connected to the original. The original was clever and fun with some great dialogue. This movie wasn't funny, the hyst was stupid and confusing and all the great charactors were terribly under-used. They could have just shot the movie using Danny Ocean, Tess, Rusty and Isabel and nobody would have even realized the other charactors were missing.
What's with that whole Tess pretending to be Julia Roberts segment? That was lame...not funny.
I'm sooo happy I didn't blind buy this one otherwise I'd be pissed at myself right now.

I'll give to you that it was confusing.

I never fully understood it. But I don't think we're supposed too...whatever that means.

Hmmm...I'm sorta in the same camp as Damian when it came to my first viewing of this film, I've sorta warmed up on it as I watched it last night. Is it as good as the first film? no i don't think so, it was too many fingers in the pie regarding characters, everyone had their place in the original, now certain characters didn't even do anything a la Bernie Mac.

It's still a wonderfully shot and acted movie, it's just a shambling mess towards the end. I like twist endings, but Ocean's 12 wasn't a twist, it was a "hey lets show you a scene you DID NOT see that explains it all so we can wrap everything up and still look witty" the whole scene on the train was where the movie just tanked for me.

But I agree about the whole "hey look it's julia roberts playing julia roberts, isn't that funny" no it's not. Umm, it had Catherine Zeta-Jones looking absolutely great in that movie though, so it's got that going for it.

I rented and watched this last night. I enjoyed the first 45 minutes or so, but after that it was just boring and blah. The "lost in translation" scene with Robbie Coltrane was quite funny, to me at least.

I thought the references to the Sixth Sense and how the characters kept saying they saw the ending coming was funny too.

I watched my Netflix rental of this last night and am glad I didn't buy this. I thought some of the angles were cool, like
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Terry Benedict tracking down the 11
but there was far too much "cheese" for me. Besides, I thought
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
the Night Fox "won" the contest since Ocean's crew had help from the "master" thief, which I understand was intentional but detracted from the contest, I think.

Oh well, at least I can say I've seen it.

Peace...

Well now, that just ruins it for me! I was all set to buy the Ocean's 12 DVD but I don't want to since the only "extra" is the theatrical trailer! Don't you hate it when that happens? There's a DVD you've been waiting to come out and the only "extra" is a weenie theatrical trailer?
