Why Don't You Respect Jason Lee?

I picked up his big chance for stardom movie A Guy Thing tonight in the $5.50 dump bin at fucking Wal-Mart while shopping for chicken. Folks, the man does not deserve this shame I tell you.

You need to respect the man, not throw him in the fucking DUMP BIN... please. He was brilliant in Chasing Amy, he made the crap that is Mallrats watchable, he was good in Mumford if I remember correctly, and he shined next to Tom Fucking Cruise in Vanilla Sky. Not to mention all the fucking hair he grew for Almost Famous.

Why don't you respect him? Huh? He's a fucking genius, and we can only hope he finally gets cast for the new Fletch movie, if there ever is one. That's assuming he hasn't retired yet, looking at his face in the fucking dump bin.

Shame

I picked up St Elmo's Fire (never seen it) and Standing in the Shadows of Motown a little while back in the Walmart dump bin, so I frankly don't think being in there is a indicator or any kind of disrespect, despite your implications to the contrary.

No offense intended, MooglePorn.

I'm trying to think of some good movies in the dump bin... there have been a few I think. Ah, yes, Rules of Attraction. But see, the point is, those films don't deserve to be there. A Guy Thing might be kind of lame compared to a lot of things, but Lee makes it enjoyable enough I shouldn't be able to buy it for $5... or something like that. Same thing for Rules of Attraction... or... well... There's got to be another one.

P.S. I paid about $20 for Rules of Attraction way back when... maybe I'm bitter.

It's not that I don't respect the guy...I just don't think he's that good of an actor, and he is usually annoying as hell. That said, he was perfect for The Incredibles.

Wasn't that Jason Lee in Big Trouble as the guy who lived in a tree? He was so droll it was hysterical.

I thought he was pretty much the only good thing in Mallrats, and much of the other titles mentioned I haven't seen. Where is all this bad talk of him to urge such a thread? I think he's a fine actor, and he has a lot of life in him yet.

I really enjoy his movies. He made Mallrats memorable, I liked him better then Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky and yes he was in Big Trouble as the guy who lived in the tree. I'd like to see him in more films, he really stands out in every movie he is in

He's in the damn dump bin man! The dump bin!!!!

Seriously, other than no one going to see his starring roles, there's no concentrated effort to say Jason Lee sucks or anything, that I know of anyway. I just like him, you don't like him enough (yes you, not him, you) so I started a thread to whine about it.

And I never saw Dreamcatcher or The Incredibles, and hadn't planned on seeing either. Maybe I will change my mind.

Change your mind. The Incredibles was really good. SOO much better then that Tarantino crap-fest you always boast about.

You're moaning about Jason Lee not getting respect and yet you haven't seen the single most important mainstream film - The Incredibles - that he's been involved in?

Seriously, that voice part did loads for his credit in the industry and I'd be surprised if he didn't get some more decent roles in future.

Man, you need to see it!

I'm not a fan of Pixar animation, really. I found Monster's Inc. and Finding Nemo to be really boring.

I'm seeing alot of Clint Eastwood titles in the "dump bin" lately. That's pretty good company, and Jason Lee is not anywhere near Clint Eastwood's league anyway.

Really? Could you explain why (and if you already have, please refer me to that thread)? I'm just curious, so I don't ask that you get too detailed. Was it the humor that you found boring (perhaps its timing or content)? Was it the shifting tone, overall pacing, story structure, characters, voice-over acting, or the co-directors' sense of style that you didn't click with? Feel free to touch on whatever you desire (if that applies).

And Jason Lee is a great comic relief actor, whose talent is sometimes wasted (such as with Hollywood crap like Stealing Harvard and A Guy Thing). His performance in The Incredibles stands out in the film, and this even prompted my dad to ask who the character's voice was when he watched it for the first time. You might not end up liking The Incredibles, since Pixar made it, but I recommend it to you just the same for its solid execution of an interesting concept. After all, it was directed by Brad Bird, who also did The Iron Giant, which happens to be another great animated film.

You're allowed to enjoy both The Incredibles and Kill Bill. I know I do.

By the way, is Jason Lee really in The Ballad of Jack and Rose? I want to see that film. I just saw Personal Velocity yesterday, and I thought it was an interesting touch that Rebecca Miller used a series of still frames to tell the story during certain sequences. That, and the three lead actresses were given compelling characters to portray. It was a flawed film, by conventional standards, because all three portraits felt incomplete due to the notes on which they ended, but at least they weren't predictable.

Carry on.

I really just don't like animation much, so that's one strike against them. Mainly though I would blame the humor, which just does not make me laugh at all. I am very picky about comedy, I laugh at very odd things and not usually at mainstream comedies, I can't really tell you why. In short, they didn't make me laugh, I'm not impressed by animation on it's own, so what am I left with? The feel-good story? Without the other two things, the story is not enough on it's own, for me, to be interested. I went and saw all the Pixar films before Incredibles because of the ex-wife, so I gave them a chance... just not my cup of tea. I don't like most regular Disney movies either, though Aladdin had some fun spots (mostly because of Robin Williams).

Jason lee has pretty much quit the acting business and has gone back to the world of professional skateboarding. He wasnt pleased with his last few movies and decide that spending time with his family and resurrecting his old skateboard company Stereo was a better use of his time and energy.

I'm sure we will see him on the big screen again someday when the right part comes along, but don't expect to see him in anymore generic comedies.

This doesn't look much like the work schedule of a person who left the movie industry.
