DVD Spine Art

Just got Sidways today and I didn't notice until I got home how retarded the spine is (Giamatti and TH Church are poking their heads out on the spine above and below the title) forgive me but i don't have a scanner to post the picture.

it's fox dvd and pretty much is identical to the awful spine art for Garden State. It made me feel like Sidways was a less than perfect addition to my selective collection just because the spine looks so cheesy and that's all you say when they are up on the shelf.

it infuriates me and i didn't buy the Garden State DVD just because the cover art was so bad and the cheesy spine hoping there might be a future release. infuriates me for some reason. any other ones you guys hate that you wish you could change? am curious

1. Not buying a movie you like because you don't like the cover art seems just a TAD bit silly to me.

2. Try looking around the internet. There's a number of hobby sites where people make their own DVD cover art. It's possible someone's already made new covers for "Sideways" and "Garden State," and if they haven't someone might be interested in making one for you.

I agree. If I like a film enough, it could come in a plain CD case. It's the MOVIE that really counts.

WOW.....yeah I would have to agree with that statement. I thought the coverart for Sideways was fine. I didn't even notice the spine art. The movie was fabulous. I can understand people being upset if it only came in full frame or if it was non-anamorphic or even if the cover art is attrocious. But when you're complaining about the spine art, it just seems like people are inventing things to be upset about.

Agreed, Mikado. I feel too geeky sometimes just because I'm irritated about those damn clippy-cases, but then I read about other DVD nuts and I realize I am small potatoes.

Cover art like this sounds like the producers are just trying to get another audience for the movie. I didn't see Sideways, but with all the Oscar buzz around it I'm sure the money-makers want it to appeal to the mainstream that doesn't follow the Oscars or make that extra effort to see something a little different. I'm sure they'll try to pass the movie off as the typical romantic comedy, although what I've heard of the movie it is hardly that.

Cover art that stinks can be traced to something like this, but dude...don't pass it up if you really like the movie.

You know what DVD really needs better art?

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

The art is so bad it almost hampers the movie.

Seriously.

Check it out.
