Aliens is a damn good movie... The Fifth Element as well, though I am happy with my Superbit of that.

What an eclectic selection! Hell, the only ones that even come close to the same genre are Aliens and The Fifth Element.

Without know more about what kind of need you are trying to fill it's kind of hard to make a recommendation. Still, if you have Alien and want to continue building the set get Aliens. Otherwise get The Fifth Element.

Sorry, but The Sound of Music doesn't do anything for me and Aladdin is only a purchase if you are a Disney completest, even though it has a fine Robin Williams performance and decent score I don't see it as being a necessity. And it's only been out for a little while, so you'll probably have another chance to pick it up before the retire it back to the vault.

Sorry, but I have to put up my defense of Aladdin here. Not only as a fantastic movie in its own right (and no, it's not just for Disney fans, but anyone who loves animation and a well done telling of a beloved story) but it's one of the best DVDs I've purchased in the last six months.

As a flick, it's just a romp of silly fun that is beautifully animated, acted, and executed. The characters are easy to get into, the story is a nice touch on the original (although Disneyfied, I'll give you that), and I can't say enough about the music. Probably the highlight of the film, but if that's not your taste than I can understand. You gotta love people just breaking out into song to really enjoy a movie like this.

As far as the DVD, maybe it's just because I waited for two years to get this thing, but it's high on my list of best DVDs from 2004. The features are great, insightful, and creative-based (lots of input from the animators and creators). I could of course do without the Disney standards that just detract from everything else, but overall the major features are more than worthy enough (much better than The Lion King, but I guess everyone hates that one too).

Aliens is a great flick, but I have to give Aladdin the slight edge just because of the quality of the DVD. I don't own the Collector's Edition of Aliens, so I can't speak about the merits of that edition alone, other than I'm still slightly bothered by Cameron's latest cut. I say go Disney on this one!

Just FYI, the new DVD edition of Aliens is as extensive as you can get, with both cuts of the movie. It probably blows Aladdin away, or is at least just as good.

Really?? Both cuts? Cripes, didn't know that. I forgot that Cameron has done that in the past. I guess I have no excuse now for not getting that (I still stare at my green VHS copy from time to time, and tell myself it's silly to replace; looks like the straw is firmly beating down the camel as we speak).

Actually I would get The Fifth Element. If your going to get Aliens don't skimp, get the Quadrilogy. Even though 3 and 4 sucked it's still cool to see that 3 wasn't Finchners fault and the reasonings behind 4. Plus 3 is entertaining for a bit. The extras disc is awsome and suppliments discs for each movie makes the whole set worth while.

But if your going for just one movie get The Fifth Element.

They're all good films

My vote went for The Sound of Music the real gem in that group, they certainly don't make'm like that anymore.

The best musical ever in my opinion, but you goota like musicals and not enough people like'm anymore

I think you should get "Aliens".
Unless you want to watch some animation. I don't think there's much of that in "Aliens". In that case you better get "Aladdin". If you're in the mood for creepy singing and dancing austrian kids, there are none of them in either Aliens or Aladdin. To help you end those cravings, I recommend "sound of music".
And in the rare case you want to see what happens when you give a frenchman too much money, get "fifth element".

Hope that helped!

I actually hate "The Sound of Music," though I don't think it's a bad movie... It's just that my sister used to watch it at LEAST two or three times a week, and I just got completely sick of hearing those damned songs.

But amongst the other three... tough choice. I'd go with "Aliens", myself.

Nice choice but like mentioned above. Don't skimp on the other movies and just buy the Quadrilogy Box Set. Can't go wrong with all the amazing extras they put on the 9 disc set. Can probably find it used cheap at soem EB or 2nd hand stores. Someone on the IGN Boards got his used copy for $30. So i suggest looking around and see if a bargain is out there for a buying

I really like Fifth Element quite a bit, but Aliens is just too tough to beat in this poll. Definitely has to be Aliens.

Hey i love musicals, but i do not enjoy the sound of music. I love all the three other movies, so i could not decide. Save some money and buy all three.
