Loose Shoes (Bill Murray) is actually on DVD

I had no idea. Check out the price. Somehow I doubt it's much of a "Collector's Edition," as the copy I saw at Tower wasn't even in a legit DVD case, but rather a chintzy thin plastic one.

Look at that cover art!

That is one quality looking release.

Reminds me of this Adam Sandler gem I spotted at at a used DVD place yesterday:

Ahhh... the "capitalize after they're famous trend" in cover art.

I actually liked Once Bitten when I saw it... which... was when I was 14. I'm not sure it's still good in any way, but I don't think it deserves that company...

The gathering isn't necessarily bad movies... more like movies that tend to put an actor front-and-center in the art after they've become huge.

For the uninitiated, LOOSE SHOES was another one of the sketch films satirizing TV and the movies that were so popular in the mid-70s -- think TUNNELVISION, KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE, and THE GROOVE TUBE. All of these popped up right around the time of SNL, and indeed often featured members of the SNL/SCTV/Reitman/Landis gang in early roles. LOOSE SHOES was filmed 1977, but didn't make it to theatres until 1981, obviously to cash in on Murray's post-SNL movie stardom.

Anyway, I've never actually seen it and can't vouch for it. I'm sure if it's not awful, it's at least as hopelessly dated as its peers.

Anyway, I do remember it being listed in "The HBO Guide" (as I called it) when I was a kid, and I became obsessed with seeing this, as it appeared to star both Murray AND Dr. Johnny Fever. But as the listing claimed it contained "Adult language, adult humor, nudity," I was not allowed. Now for 4 bucks, I hope to fulfill this now 23-year quest to see it.

Yeah, I understood why it was in there, I was just commenting it might be slightly more worth while than the others. But probably not, considering I was 14 and don't care for most of his other comedies.

As is Hi Mom. Both are rather dated, but it was interesting to watch early DePalma before he grew a massive boner for Hitchcock. Wait, strike that. DeNiro plays a peeping tom in both films, a la Rear Window. Damn. Well, I got nuthin'.

LOOSE SHOES is also available on another public domain label, as part of a double feature with another film. I can't remember which one.

It isn't a bad film, has a few funny moments, but is probably one of the lesser of the 70's sketch comedy films.
