Right on.
I had wanted to get this for the longest time, but after I went 16:9 I removed all the MAR titles off my back catalog list. Now that this is being re-issued in anamorphic goodness, I can pick this up. And for a change, it won't be a double dip. -Flash PS: "For one dollar I'll guess your weight, your height, or your sex."

I guess for those who have not seen this yet, maybe we should put quotes in spoilers.
Man, I can't wait to see this again. |

I have the Classic Steve Martin box set, where the cover image says "widescreen" but the disc is only full-frame (open matte).
I'll definitely pick this up, though I just wish they had called it the "26th Anniversary Special Purpose Edition". I-slit-the-sheet-the-sheet-I-slit-and-in-the-slitted-sheet-I-sit. ![]()

Now I'm glad I haven't picked up that Steve Martin set. I need me some Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, but with this newer version of The Jerk coming out (both were in the set) I'll just have to get it seperate.

Have to say that after getting all excited, I find I'm now torn.
Man With Two Brains was on TV here the other day in widescreen, so I lined up my full-frame DVD and sure enough it was open matte - simply the top and bottom of screen black-barred out. I know The Jerk is open matte, and much as I love the film, I don't know if I can be bothered by this - the extras are just not screaming out at me and it would be great to have more. I'd be happy to wait and see if the widescreen framing adds much (doubt it) or to see if pic quality is really upped, but for the funky little film The Jerk is, and the lack of decent extras, I'll probably pass or at least wait till I see this for dropped down prices. Sorry to say it - and I've been a long-time Jerk supporter in my circle of friends - but it's true. Seems more like a "Shithead" edition than anything special to me. ![]()
