Universal has announced this title before, only to dick around with it. I'm hopeful that they mean it this time, as this is one of my most wanted DVD titles, especially as the extended cut.

To paraphrase Depp from the film

"Universal, if you'll put this out, you'll make me the happiest juvenile delinquent in Boston!"

was this released theatrically in widescreen?

I have the old MCA laserdisc (full-screen) and it looks like the intended matting to me. nothing seems cramped at the sides and it doesn't look like anything's added at the top and bottom.

Cry-Baby
Final disc specs have just arrived for Universal's Cry-Baby: Director's Cut. The John Waters musical comes with a new 1.85 anamorphic transfer and a Dolby Digital Stereo audio track. Bonus features include the in-depth making-of documentary "It Came from Baltimore" and never-before-seen deleted scenes. Retail is $19.98.

Sweet if it's all true. I'm still too skeptical of UNiversal that I won't believe it until I see it. The director's cut is about 7 minutes longer.

IMDB lists the OAR at 1.37:1, so unless that's wrong (and they've been known to be), then the 1.85:1 is the wrong aspect ratio. I'll hang on to the LD and compare later.

No guaranteed-to-be-even-better-than-the-movie John Waters commentary?

Feh to that, I say!

Yeah I'm hoping for a commentary as well. I'll still get it, but it would be disappointing, especially after recalling the title a number of times.
