Spider-man 2 extended edition - any news?

Has anyone heard anything lately about an extended edition of Spider-man 2? I thought it was supposed to be out sometime this year, but the rumor mill has been rather quiet lately.

Didnt even know this was a rumor. I'd rather have an EE of 1 with the twin towers put back in.

I heard the rumor once. I think it's been put to rest.

Only rumor I ever saw was of this was soon after the theatrical release, where Sam Raimi mentioned in an interview that there may have been 5 minutes worth of character scenes cut out for the theatrical cut.

But Sony/Columbia is as big a double-dip slut studio as Fox is, so just when we least expect it, they'll probably announce some sort of EE version. If I had to take a guess, I imagine it might be timed to appear when the Spidey 3 movie is scheduled to come out in 2007 or 2008.

Personally, I think Spidey 2 is perfect as is, loaded with tons of extras and commentary tracks. I doubt I would double-dip for any sort of EE version.

Do you mean the scene from the trailer? Wasn't that created JUST for the trailer and never a part of the movie? Or do you mean how they digitally removed some shots from the film's skyline?

Limacharliewhis was correct ... soon after the film came out, Sam Raimi mentioned putting some scenes back in for an extended edition of the DVD that was rumored to be out for 2005.

Since then I haven't heard a thing, but given Sony's track record, I would expect a double-dip by the time Spider-man 3 hits the theater.

I've seen the extras on regular edition of Spider-man 2 and I'm not sure if they're anything to write home about. I don't know about you all, but I have so many DVDs now that I rarely, if ever, watch any of the extras (though I do get angry if they're not included with a disc).

In any case, I saw that Bestbuy.com has all of their Superbit titles on sale for $9.99, so I think I'll pick up the Superbit Spider-man 2. I've heard very good things about the Superbit Spidey 2, and I hope it looks as nice on my HD set!

I was told by Bruce "Ash" Campbell at a book signing, that that scene was supposed to be in the film. Maybe he was told wrong.

You may be (and therefore Bruce) right. I had just always heard the story differently. Who knows? After 9/11 a lot of weird cuts were made in the entertainment industry.

He seemed pissed about it too. I asked him if they had taken the scene from the teaser out and he said "yeah...and I think its f*ckin bullsh*t!"

I just watched the teaser again the other night, and my cousin and I both felt that it seemed as though it was filmed by somebody else.

It almost felt like a 2nd unit crew or something, and not the same crew who filmed the movie itself.

I really doubt that it was ever considered to be put in the film when they were doing the final editing, even before the wtc.

As far as the Spider-Man 2 extended cut, I remember reading how Sam Raimi said that the extra 5 minutes were scattered throughout the entire film, with like 30 seconds of extra footage fighting Doc Ock on the clock, and 30 seconds more on the subway train, etc. He said that some of it wasn't finished because Columbia was trying to rush the film out by a certain date, and while the cuts aren't long, he felt that they would be noticed, because he said that you'd be amazed at how noticeable and significant even 30 seconds could be in the editing/pacing of a fight scene.

Either way, I'm all for it...

He also said that when Sony offered the extra money to finish it up, he said why not because he figured "the kids" would like a little extra action. He was totally fine with how the movie ended up, but didn't mind at all adding in a little extra stuff here and there for the people that wanted it.

I guess I never understood why exactly they didn'twant to show the towers in movies and tv shows? Do they want to forget them for some reason?

The idea wasn't for anyone to forget them, per se, but that seeing them so soon after what had happened would bring up bad memories for people.

I'm one of the "rare breed" that don't find the Spidey movies very entertaining, so I won't be picking this extended version up even if it does exist!
