"Platinum Disc Corporation" DVDS?
Anybody ever seen these? They're all over the place whenever I go to Circuit City. They're on the cheaper side ($6.99, I believe) and come in a package I would best describe as a tall, wide, jewel case. I finally took a chance on one and bought Out In Fifty, a decent little movie with Mickey Rourke and a few other "names". Of course, the transfer was mediocre at best, but not terrible. Just curious if anyone has seen this and/or picked one up, and what'd you think?

If it's a third-party distributor, look for any mention of restoration work. For instance, Anchor Bay & Criterion & Kino don't produce any movies, they put out what they can obtain the rights to. But they do restoration work to improve & preserve the picture quality. Then there are companies like Platinum & Madacy. They only digitize what they get their corporate hands on, with no attempt at restoration. With them, you pays your money and takes your chances.

I bought National Lampoon's Golf Punks on a Platinum Disk. The transfer wasn't horrible, the colors were slightly oversaturated but not to the point of being unwatchable. The picture is clear though. For the price I paid (under 5.00 I believe) I can't complain. I'm not sure I would purchase another one of theirs though.
