Sin City SE by Christmas, might want to hold off

I am posting a link where it is stated the SE will be out by Christmas.....Looks like it will be good. I for one will wait for that as it is only four months....I will post the IGN link and story later......some really cool stuff coming

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/...gory=3&id=31122

quote:Rodriguez said that he's working on the special DVD edition of the first Sin City, which is scheduled for release just before Christmas. He said the DVD will divide the movie into its three graphic-novel stories, with some extra footage. "You'll be able to see each story separately," he said. "You can watch Yellow Bastard, Big Fat Kill or Hard Goodbye, and there's a lot of behind-the-scenes featurettes being planned." One of his regular inclusions on his DVDs is a recipe, and this time he revealed that it will be Sin City breakfast tacos. "Too many people go to the dark side and go to the store and get store-bought tacos," he said. "This is my grandmothers' recipe with flour tortillas. The DVD will have a lot of cool stuff."

IGN: Knowing that there will eventually be multiple versions of a film released on DVD, how do you make sure that your audience is satisfied with each of those iterations?
Rodriguez: Well, usually I just put out one. With this one, they are already putting out one that comes out [August 16] that is just bare bones. I had not put anything extra on that, because I didn't have time to finish my DVD extras. They will put that out four months later because of piracy and stuff like that, and they actually don't put anything on there so that they know, 'well, this isn't the real DVD.'

The real DVD should come out fairly quick, [and] it's the one that will be obviously the double-disc set with all of the goodies on it. I mean, it has all kinds of stuff on there - I have a 20-minute Film School, a new Cooking School, Sin City Breakfast Tacos, and my favorite feature: when people watch DVDs, they complain 'oh, the only thing about home entertainment is you miss that audience experience.' Well, the best audience is in Austin, especially for a movie that was made there. We showed the premiere with the actors there in a 1500-seat theater, and they would go crazy and Sin City got a big reaction. I recorded the audience in 5.1 so if you're watching the DVD and you want to see it with an Austin audience on premiere night, you just click a button and they're all there going 'aaaah!' so it's really cool.

Quentin, when he was directing his sequence, he just let the tape roll when we were shooting, and the sequence taped for an hour, so there are some 20-minute uninterrupted takes. You see him wander in front of the camera and talk to the actors, and [he's] directing and you hear the whole sound of the set. It's like you're sitting right there on the set seeing the movie being shot from the point of view of the camera that's shooting the movie, uninterrupted, and it's really cool. You feel like you're right there, and you get to see what it's like to work with Quentin and the actors and how the movie actually gets made. [And] he will do a commentary on his section.

Same here, unless the theatrical cut will be available on the SE via seamless branching.

Yes! finally we can have the sound of cell phone rings & crying babies. I will be double dipping on this one for sure, or just wait for X-mas and have someone else get it for me.

I don't have the patience to wait for the special edition either, so I'll be double-dipping on this one as well. Oh, and it's only $13.99 at Fry's Electronics. For those of you who don't have Fry's nearby:

I haven't seen this yet and will now wait for the SE, but there is no confirmation that it will have the theatrical cut on there. If it doesn't then I'll buy the bare bones DVD as well because it should be cheaper by the time the SE is released.

Excellent, I think I will be holding off until Christmas to get the SE. I'll probably just keep the theatrical from netflix at my house until thanksgiving or so.

What ever happened to the Kill Bill SE's? I remember reading at thedigitalbits around last march that the SE's were going to be released around August. I took my Kill Bill 1 & 2 back after reading that.

Haven't seen it, but heard so many good things that I went ahead and bought it. If I really do like it well enough, I'll consider double-dipping and giving my current copy to somebody else.

Any word on if there will be multiple SE's? For example, maybe a two disk SE and then a gift set that has the full comics in it?

I am sure they are still weighing various possibilities.

I bet it is a good possibility. Nevertheless, I will pick up the first SE and not worry about the theatrical for now. I'll rent the theatrical from netflix and I'll snag the SE. Even if they did release multiple SE's, I have a feeling it would be a good while after the first SE for the second one to come out. Like right before the next movie or something.

Makes sense.

The more current trend seems to be initial release and then SE SE Gift Set re-release on certain "big titles" as the studios like to call them.

That's how the Spidey box set worked if I remember right. I'd have to check the street date and sequel date, I don't remember off hand.

Release date for the box set according to amazon was November 1, 2002. They originally planned for Spiderman 2 to be released May 7th (it caem out June 30th I think) so that is kind of a long gap. Longer than I remembered.

Also, Lost season 1 box set comes out September 7th I think and the new season starts the 21st. A DVD release is just free publicity.

Yes it is. And there are a lot of theatrical releases and a lot of DVDs I would not have bought if it wasn't for a cheapie reissue with a free movie ticket inside.

And my Spidey guess was way off.

Edit:

I was almost right.

Spidey 2 was released June 30, 2004.

Spidey 1, three-disk set released June 1, 2004

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd

and

Spidey 1 Superbit was June 1, 2004

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd

Where I goofed up was the big gift set, that was back in 2002.

Ooooof.

Pardon the threadjack. But I am sure we'll get more than one reissue of Sin City. I don't see any reason why the title won't get milked.

I am thinking about it, but more scenese never hurt my opinions about a movie I loved, so I'll probably lay off.

Interesting read.

While he did say the new edition will contain generous additions and suppliments, no real idea on the release date.

Also glad to read that they want to recast most of the top players for the sequel.

Thanks for the link.

Ok I missed that. Where did he say that he wants to recast the main characters for the next film? I only see how he loves all of the actors that were in the first and that he writes assuming he'll get the actors he wants in regards to Jessica Alba not returning. Clive Owen could still return even if his Dwight character looks different. They just need to use makeup to change his looks. At least this way his voice will be the same.

Details are up at DVDAnswers and it looks VERY worth it. three commentaries, many features, and the original book (which I already own, but still...).

I'm CERTAINLY double-dipping. FYI: It contains both versions of the movie, but I wouldn't sell that old copy until we see how well the seamless branching works.

Is it confirmed anywhere else yet?

DVDAnswers usually hits the nail on the head, but they usually miss a loy of thing, and I like to believe stuff after I read it in other places too.
