I'm (finally) getting excited about DVDs again!

Like many others have posted recently, my interest in DVDs has been declining lately. Nothing particularly interesting has been released, the looming threat of having to switch to a hi-def format, etc., all has led me to look at the new-release wall at Best Buy with a resounding "meh."

But between now and the end of the year, some truly exciting stuff is coming out -- I'm actually giving a shit about some upcoming releases!

Classics like King Kong, Wizard of Oz, and the Fred Astaire films, quality re-releases of lousy bare-bones DVDs like Titanic, Office Space, and Batman, and bitchin' new discs like Sin City...after several months of barely adding to my collection, I'm going to have to quit drugs for a while to afford all the goodies I'm going to buy!

Just thought I'd share...

Yup, There is a lot of nice releases in our future, gonna be expensive though!

But I'll still go for them, and as far as HD DVD goes when its affordable I'll jump in, and only up grade a few titles.

Yeah, I've cut down massively over the past few months, but my fall/winter schedule is still amazingly packed with great releases... I think I'm happy about that, but my wallet isn't...

Yeah it's been awefully dry this Summer, but as I predicted, October and November are going to kick my ass, as with every year.

For years we demanded the big movies like The Godfather, Indiana Jones and of course Star Wars. Now that they're all out there's really nothing "big" to look forward to other then re-hashes of bare bones editions. I wonder if we'll do the same thing once we all start the move to hi-def DVD?

My collection will never be complete until Metropolitan is released on DVD. Until then, I might as well keep adding to it. But I have noticed a decline in my dvd buying. This, unfortunately, is in no way related to interest, but rather my current funds. I am heading off to college and losing my job at the same time which means huge spendings and no income, at this time. Thus, no DVDs except for the necessities for a while.

Just when I was happily adjusting to my downturn in DVD buying. Hopefully it won't be much more than a few classics here and there...and a few tv shows...and a few other things...oh, damn. It's starting again.

Anyway, I have gotten both excited and less excited about DVDs lately. I sold off a bunch of mine, but there are a few I really want to pick up to fill out my collection. So my collection is getting smaller, but I am still buying a few new ones. The Oz disc will likely be one of those.

My own DVD purchasing has been noticibly declining for the past few months, partly due to funding, but mostly due to fewer titles coming available that interest me.

For me I think DVDs have really matured, as I have almost every movie that I want. The movies that I do buy are recent releases, plus the occasional double dip to upgrade from a bare bones edition to a special edition. The other buying tends to be for television series boxed sets such as the Simpsons.

My interest in DVD hasn't dwindled any but my purchasing behavior has changed drastically. I don't purchase DVDs nearly as often as I used to, including new releases. I'm making lists and buying them used when I get around to it. I guess I'm happy enough renting from Netflix that the "urgency" to own has been reduced tremendously.

Peace...
