Hi! I just learned that Basic Instinct has been discontinued, thanks to the DVS thread.

Does anyone know if it will be re-released with an anamorphic widescreen video transfer or is this title basically dead?

Good question. There is a rumor going around that there will be a DVD release of the director's cut which I have on LD. This is a Carolco studios film and I don't know who owns the rights now of Carolco is even still around. Usually when a well-known title is discontinued that means a re-release is in the works. I hope so as the director's cut is the way to go with this film.

The director's cut LD contains:
widescreen with deleted footage added in
audio commentary by Paul Verhoeven
theatrical trailer
behind the scenes stuff

Hi! Well, I just got this from an "insider":

"Artisan has plans to offer a special edition in October. It will be a new anamorphic 2.35 transfer with both the american and european cuts of the films. They also have plans to put it into a special metal box with
an ice pick on the cover.."
