Descriptive Video Service (DVSŪ)

I recently bought Basic Instinct for a few reasons..under $10, recently discontinued, and includes DVS, which I was curious about. It's quite a neat feature, and kind of amusing with a film like this. I know it's available on Dinosaur also, but I can't seem to find a listing of other titles that have it, other than this list of VHS titles: http://main.wgbh.org/wgbh/access/dvs/dvshvcatalog.html ..anyone have any ideas?

Descriptive Video Service, or DVS features a narrator describing the action on-screen for the visually impaired...anything important to the story that isn't already explained by dialogue is described, such as what the characters are wearing, when they grab each other's asses, what room of a house they are in. Things like that.

It gives a sort of books-on-tape effect to a movie, so you don't have to watch to follow the story.

I noticed T2 has this feature also, so that makes 3 titles I know about so far.

Don't know about DVDs, but many movies that air on American Movie Classics (AMC) use DVS on the SAP...

AMC uses DVS on the SAP...try saying THAT five times fast!

Well, I was referring to Basic Instinct of course. Btw, 'ass' is the only naughty term the describer uses..the rest is pretty tame but very descriptive..LOL

I can imagine some 'exciting' uses for this feature though...hopefully in the near future

i had the origingal T2 with DVS so i knew what DVS was and i thought it was a pretty cool, if not sometimes funny extra, the second i heard that Basic Instinct had it on the disc i picked it up because i knew that it would be HILARIOUS!

chapter 28: "Nick lays Cathrine onto a bed and plunges his mouth onto hers. Kicking off his jeans, his naked ass straddles her, then he sits up and pulls his sweater off his muscular chest, she lies naked beneath him, her nipples erect. Her chest heaves a sigh as he bends onver and licks her breast.....
it goes on and on. its a great at parties to show off the great special features on DVD!

DVS is also on the Tarzan 2-disc set.
I also remember watching some episodes of the PBS science series Nova some time ago that had DVS. But the weird thing about that was that it wasn't through an SAP channel, it was just how it was being broadcast! Very strange to simply run accross that sort of thing when you're not expecting it...

it is on T2 but not T2UE. just go to the Languages section or change to Audio 5 (i think) in the movie.
