Groundhog Day: Pretty good, but a new SE is on the way later this year, I believe, so you may want to hold off.
Air Force One: Again, pretty good. Both this and Groundhog Day are from Sony, and they rarely put out a bad transfer. The World is Not Enough: Possibly the best in the series, if only because it's the most recent. Jurassic Park/Lost World-Collector's Editon: Good. Some people like to bitch about the audio, but they're more than adequate. Men In Black-Collector's Edition: Good stuff here. Airplane: About as good as it's going to look and sound, considering its age. Silence of the Lambs-Criterion Collection: Good but not great. Unless you're a die hard Criterion completist, you may want to hold off for the upcoming MGM release. The real benefit of the Criterion is the excellent audio commentary which will not be on the MGM disc. |

Air Force 1 - Very good picture with a couple tiny bits of grain, but excellent none the less. the audio on the disc is one of the best on the 230 discs i own. when the fighter jets fly by it rips the room apart. Absolutely Reccomended
Naked Gun 1 - very good video for a film that old, new 5.1 mix, surrounds are mostly just used for music. Reccomended if you are a fan of NG series. TWINE - Excellent video, not a hint of dirt. Another great sounding disc. a great disc to show off your system, especially the pre-credits sequence. Jurassic/Lost World - The picture seems a little soft and diffused at times, but it is mostly vibrant and crisp. i only have the DD version but it has impressive sound that shakes the house as the T-Rex stomps by, also the voices were nice and clear. MIB - Great picture quality, i thought the audio could have been better, the surrounds are mainly used to pump out Danny Elfman's bassy score but the spaceship crashes are good too. Airplane - ok picture and sound, remember it is 20+ years old and was a super low budget comedy. but if you're a fan you have to own it. Silence - a slightly grainy diffused picture, but it really adds to the mood of the film. only 2.0 audio, but it is clear and the voices are well produced. if you're looking for referance material to show off your system, this isnt it. |

I have 9 to 5 and think they did the best they could with it. The picture is pretty good..I saw no artifacts and have no complaints. As for the sound, they made a 2.0 surround mix, but it's pretty useless...no effects and the music sounds flat...a little better in just stereo. But they include the original mono track too. The only supplements are a trailer that's just an early teaser with no actual film footage, and a few stills. Couple of bonus trailers too.
I'd say get it if you're a fan of the film. I doubt they will revisit it anytime soon. Only other one from your list I have is Men in Black collector's edition. It's definitely a must-own. Flawless picture, I thought the 5.1 mix was great myself, tons of extras..the visual commentary is very cool. ------------------ Jeff ---- Experience is the toughest teacher. AIR FORCE ONE has to be one the top five best Dolby Digital soundtracks I've ever heard--top notch stuff here. The picture is great, of course--it's Columbia/TriStar!
JURASSIC PARK/THE LOST WORLD--I spent over $100 to get the big fat daddy collector's boxed set, only to find out that the audio sounds like something off of AM radio. I guarantee you, everyone who says the audio is fine never owned the LaserDisc (and no, I'm not talking DTS here--just the regular CAV LD). The bass on the DD DVDs is pathetic, and I hear the DTS versions are even more crippled. Shame, shame, shame... I hear Universal may be quietly rectifying their error when JURRASSIC PARK III hits home video--here's hoping... MEN IN BLACK: Collector's Edition: Slightly disappointing transfer, with much more pixelization than today's discs should have, but nice audio and ample extras, especially on the Limited Edition. Beware of the DTS version--I hear that, in addition to the pixelization problem, the image has a slightly yellowish cast due to the increased storage space required by the DTS track. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: Criterion Collection: Grainy, dirty transfer that will hopefully be cleaned up on MGM's forthcoming Special Edition reissue (though I fear they will botch D.P.'s Tak Fujimoto's approved color temperatures from the Criterion) and unremarkable, but serviceable, audio. The commentary track really shines, though, so I'm glad I have that, at least. This track alone may well validate a purchase. |

Air Force One
Good picture and sound, esp the 5.1 mix which is very aggressive. However, it is a flipper and contains both widescreen and fullscreen. Virtually no extras except for the commentary The World is Not Enough Great picture and sound as it is very recent (1999). However, it is lacking in features when compared to the other Bonds and the code 2 TWINE. One of the best menus yet. Jurassic Park/Lost world-Collector's Editon Get the Dolby Digital versions instead of the DTS. For a picture nearly 8 yrs the pic looks fab and the DD sound is great. Some nice features but no Spielberg commentary. Lost world is the same. Men In Black-Collector's Edition Get the 2 disc one. Wonderful pic and sound and some great extras. Silence of the Lambs-Criterion Collection Non-anamorphic transfer spoils it all. The picture from Crit as usual looks natural but the print shows some dirt and the sound not remixed from 5.1. Otherwise, some nice and unusual extras still do not justify the high pricing. Finaly, where are thse movies on DVD? |

Naked Gun 1, 2, 3. Good sound and video. I've had problems with a scene in #1 not playing right around 1:11 into the film and replacement copies have all had the same problem, so it might by my player.
Jurassic Park, very good no complaints. Men In Black, CE excellent. |

My only minor complaint with the set is the packaging...it's kind of cheap looking, and they glue a paper with a list of features to the back loosely, which you can either leave on and have it tear, or remove for an ugly glue stain. ------------------ Jeff ---- Experience is the toughest teacher.
