10 DVDs I want released that aren't even rumored

I thought I would create a thread of ten disks you might want that the studios aren't even rumored to be considering releasing. (Please no Star Wars, Godfather, Indiana Jones. We all know the status of those):

1. La Dolce Vita (region 1)
2. The Butcher Boy
3. Ugestu Monogatari
4. The Conformist
5. Wise Blood
6. The Pathfinder (Ofelas)
7. Sebastiane
8. Bill Moyer's interviews with Joseph Campbell
9. Last Exit to Brooklyn
10. Show Boat (36)

I'll second

1. The Conformist
and
2. The Butcher Boy

and add:
3. Blood Simple
4. A Pure Formality
5. Hearts Of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse
6. Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid
7. The Ballad Of Cable Hogue
8. Once Upon A Time In The West
9. Glengarry Glen Ross
10. Eyes Wide Shut (as Kubrick intended)

I'm pretty sure none of these have been released or announced - please correct me if I'm wrong (so I can find them!).

I thought I heard murmurs about Blood Simple, but I'm not sure.

I have a long want list, but these are the ones I've heard NOTHING about regarding a Region 1 (or all region) release:

El Norte
The Dark Backward
The Children's Hour
How To Steal a Million
Roman Holiday
Wish You Were Here
The Chocolate War
When the Wind Blows
You Can't Take It With You
Bright Lights Big City
Decline of Western Civilization
Clash of the Titans
Drowning by Numbers
Electric Dreams
What Happened Was
Modern Romance
My Bodyguard
Koyaanisqatsi/Powaqqatsi
Top Secret
Real Genius

And hopefully for Woody Allen Collection #3:
Radio Days
Hannah and Her Sisters
Zelig
Husbands and Wives
Broadway Danny Rose
Purple Rose of Cairo

4. The Kiss (horror flick)
5. Glengarry GlenRoss
6. Gator Bait I & II
8. No Man's Land
9. Firefox (Clint Eastwood)
10. Which way is up (Richard Pryor)

Well, I guess that's about it......

Peace.....

I'm sure there's a MATINEE DVD...

I haven't even heard a nibble of a rumor for KING KONG (or the all-but-forgotten sequel, SON OF KONG), which begs for a special edition. And I second James Whale's SHOW BOAT. And where's THE JOLSON STORY and THE JAZZ SINGER? THE ISLAND OF LOST SOULS? A NIGHT AT THE OPERA? THE THIN MAN and its sequels? Hallmark Entertainment apparently owns the rights to the Laurel & Hardy catalogue, but have shown no interest in releasing either the features (SONS OF THE DESERT, WAY OUT WEST, A CHUMP AT OXFORD) or the classic shorts. While VCI and Image have done a good job with releases of vintage movie serials, the bulk of the Republic output (ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL, SPY SMASHER, THE TIGER WOMAN) sits moldering in the vaults, as do most of the great Max Fleischer cartoons (POPEYE and BETTY BOOP).

I can't think of any movies that haven't been mentioned already, but you said DVDs not movies so here's a couple TV shows I want on DVD.

1. Batman (Not the cartoon).

2. Wild Wild West (With Robert Conrad not Will Smith).

I want boxsets of every episode for both shows.

Here's a longshot:

Weekend at Bernie's II

For some reason, I feel I'd be the only one to buy it if it was released on DVD...

I'll second How To Steal a Million, Roman Holiday, and You Can't Take It With You. Add Topper to the list. I'm miffed that Roman Holiday wasn't part of Paramount's recent Audrey releases.

And tomdkat, Buckaroo Bonzai's been announced. I remember seeing cover art. I think it was just postponed.

I can't come up with ten off the top of my head, but here's one film: the 227-minute European cut of Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America. If there's a three-disc set for Cleopatra, there ought to be one for that, too. But I'd even take a cleaned-up bare bones disc at a decent price.

As for a television box set, this is an extreme long shot that will never happen, but I can dream: a box set for the television series Otherworld, which ran on CBS for eight episodes back in the '80s.

Weekend at Bernie's 2 was on TV here locally on Thursday. What was that one? He was being powered by some Voodoo curse? One of my friends was over and we couldn't figure out why they didn't make more of those. Heck, even make a TV series out of it. They could just bring on FX wizard Tom Savini on board after a while!

-The Great White Hype (I know, it bombed, but I always thought it was underrated)
-Hellraiser 3
-Bullet (Mickey Rourke)
-Lost Highway (there's no listing of any DVD. Can this be right?)
-Heaven's Prisoners
-Pumpkinhead 2 (Roger Clinton, Punky Brewster and the dad from Hellraiser? CLASSIC!)
-Jack The Ripper (TV miniseries with Michael Caine and Armand Assante)
-Class Act
-Blood & Wine
-And even though it's not a movie, I'd love for some Soprano-style Oz DVDs.

I would definitely like to see all eight (or nine?) seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street, plus the movie, released on DVD. Of course I don't think there are enough Homicide fans around to warrant such a release. Too bad.

The Island of Lost Souls (1932) has recently been announced by K7 as part of a two-feature disc, along with the Curtiz horror semi-classic The Mystery of the Wax Museum of the same year.

I also believe Once Upon a Time in the West is being worked on by Paramount.

BeanBandit,

I'm with you 100% on the Homicide releases. It is absolutely my favorite series ever. I managed to tape nearly every episode over the years, but it just makes me long for the DVDs more when I watch them.

Great, Great, GREAT television show.

PS - actually, I believe I heard something about the movie being released this summer.

I'll second Clash of the Titans

I'd like to add:

The African Queen
UHF (Only hearing vague rumors)

MST3K Episodes of the following:

Red Zone Cuba
Skydivers
The Beast of Yucca Flats
Mitchell
Catalina Caper
A DVD full of MST3K shorts

Basically ANY MST3K episode on DVD is a very good thing

All 4 seasons of Wiseguy (well 3 1/4 including the Guzman Arc with Maximillian Schell and the first Mayor Arc ep with Billy Dee Williams).

The remaining episodes of Crime Story (Anchor Bay released the pilot last year with an excellent booklet).

Whole seasons of Highlander (the best of is ok but is missing some of my favourite eps).

Whole seasons of The Six Million Dollar Man, Spider Man (60's cartoon and 70's live action - which will probably happen due to the movie) and The Incredible Hulk.

Movies:

The Bushido Blade (1979)
Royal Flash (1975)

If you've got your DVD player modified for all regions, you can begin to fulfill your desires!

Universal has just released a whole new DVD line in the UK, Playback, devoted to TV series from the 70s and the 80s, with titles like KNIGHT RIDER, THE A-TEAM, AIRWOLF, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, THE BIONIC WOMAN, MIAMI VICE, IRONSIDE, KOJAK and COLUMBO.

I haven't watched any of them, all I've seen is an ad at the latest issue of the british magazine EMPIRE, so I do not know either if they are planning further releases. Judging from the ad, for the moment there's only one disc per series, with 3 episodes each. If there's somebody from the UK reading this (I live in Spain) maybe he/she will be able to expand on it.

How could I forget Ed Wood & Summer School?

Also, how about a box set of every episode of "The Andy Griffith Show"? If they just want to do the black & white ones, thats fine, as I'm not a big fan of the color ones.

TV Land should start releasing DVD box sets for shows that they oen the rights to.

Does anyone know if "Flashdance" is in the works? After watching the "Behind The Music" story on VH1, my interest in this film was rekindled.
