Yet another ass-raping of the consumer by forcing them to pay $30 for a 2-disc SE.

I might wait for the DDD.com sale but i will be buying. Saw some parts from the booth and i was liking what i say. . . .except for the Xmas party scene.

How often do you actually pay the price that studios say they are going to be initially released at???? You'll be able to find the 2 disc SE anywhere from $15.99 to $20. If you do pay what they say they'll be charging then you ain't lookin' for the deals hard enough.

Uh, the recent trend has been 2-disc SE's (especially ones packaged with silly scrapbooks and the like) being a lot more expensive than the 1-disc releases. The 2-disc Cinderella Man costs almost $40! You can buy the four-disc LOTR for $10/$15 dollars less. Two years ago, all 2-disc sets cost under $20 the opening week of sales. How long ago that seems...

The special edition, with an extra disc, and a photo book, at $10 more is an ass-raping? Sounds about fair to me...

Then again, in Australia we're lucky if we get two discs for a lot of our stuff.

Exactly. On release day, some stores have "loss leader" sales enabling you to buy the DVDs at much lower prices. Plus, there's also the used DVD market. I'll rent this and if I like it enough, I'll pick it up used on Amazon.com for dirt cheap.

Peace...

$15.99 to $20 will likely be the price of the 1-disc. The 2-disc has a MSRP of $39.99, which means most people will pay between $25 to $30. The latest Sin City: Recut & Extended would be my most recent example. I paid $27 for it. I tried to find it for $20 or less, but couldn't anywhere. Someone mentioned finding it at their Wal-Mart for $20, but the my local Wal-marts were selling it for $31.

With the studios now releasing 1- and 2-disc versions simultaneously on opening week, stores are giving its discounts to the 1-disc versions to the $15-20 price range. The 2-disc sets are not receiving the same discount, especially if their MSRP is $39.99.

you can still easily find at least 35% off the MSRP. if you don't think it's that greater deal, then don't fuckin' buy it. i can safely say we don't get discounts quite that like on DVDs in Australia unless they are on sale from the distributor.

christ, either people complain that the only a one disc is released, and/or complain about double dipping, or they complain that the special edition price is too high.

y'know what? 'tis the season to hate consumers.

Definately like the looks of the 2 disker. The other one....ehh it's ok. I don't think Jamie Foxx should be so featured cause he really wasn't a major player on the movie. His charater was great but he himself didn't have much screen time.

Yeah, but right now he's a NAME!! that will attract more attention than Peter Sarsgaard. I'm halfway surprised they didn't plaster ACADEMY-AWARD WINNER, JAMIE FOXX across the top.

I'm totally going for the 2-disc, though. Loved the hell out of this movie. Of course, I had to sit through the usual "Nothing happened in that movie!" bull from some teenagers with baggy pants and sideways hats coming out of the theatre. Oy.

The 2-disc of this was double the price of the one disc at Best Buy. Needless to say, I got the 1-disc.

Just a heads up though, the 1-disc doesn't say that it has commentaries and the 2-disc states that it does. The 1-disc does have the commentaries!
Don't be fooled by the tricky packaging. I didn't see anything on that 2nd disc worth double the price.

It was cheaper for me to order the 2-Disc from Amazon.com. It was 41.99 at Best buy where I live...almost 50 with tax. It cost me 38 including the exchange and shipping online. It seams to be a growing trend (at least in Canada) that the double disc editions of movies are almost twice the price of the single disc....this was not the norm a year ago. Thank gawd for ordering online...it lets me feed the monkey on my back for a better price.

yeah, there is absolutely no chance i will support this two-disc, high priced phenomenon that is now occuring. makes me sick.

I watched this last night and thought it was ok. It wasn't what I had expected, but I enjoyed it. Not sure if I'll buy it or not.

What I want to know is what other "jarheads" thought if/when they saw it. The "Deer hunter" scene was off the hook.

I picked the 2-disc up blind from Best Buy. They only had one of the 2-discs left so I jumped on it.

I loved the film and the extras are pretty good in relation to the fluff that is usually present these days. The documentary about Marines getting back into regular daily life is good as are the on-set diaries.

I couldn't find the two-disc set at Circuit City or Best Buy...not that I would have purchased that over the single disc. I just wanted to check out the packaging.

The 2-disc set is supposibly out of production already. According to DVDAF.com when some were adding the dvd to their collection. Many stores are out of the dvd according to some posters there. If it weren't for the $43 Cnd price tag i would buy it, but no wi just might if its OOP already

I'd really like to see a breakdown of the price on some of these movies.

Studios get ?%
Distributors ?%
Actors get ?%

How does it all shake out?

And the studios complain that sales are down, gee I wonder why.

Because the studio chose to make a limited run of the 2 disc set. Warner did that with Batman Begins.

Wasn't Saving Private Ryan a "limited" 2 disk too? Hell you still can't walk into a dvd place without tripping over them.

I'm sure you can find a 2 disk set somewhere other than ebay.

Well I am glad they are really putting a meaning behind the title of Limited Edition, but a week is a bit short.

Walmart didn't have it when I went on release day, I was going to wait until I headed out to KC sometime this month but a friend talked me into getting it at our local hastings. Glad I did now.

i was at Hastings yesterday and they had about 12 of the 2-disc. i would have picked one up if they had a used one, but i wasn't gonna shell out $37 + for a movie that i didn't love. i'm fine with the 1 disc i got at walmart for $13.00 the day it came out.
