Do we really need...

A Notting Hill Ultimate Edition?

The prefix Ultimate is being thrown around a little too loosely for my tastes. Movies that deserve the right work-ups aren't getting them... and then the market gets inundated with 2-disc sets of movies like this.

Now, I say this knowing that there are fans of the movie out there... and I'm not trying to take anything away from you... but I hope you would agree that it is certainly frustrating when something as marketably mainstream as this is pre-released before other classic films that have not yet been released... or have been, but are not up to par as a package.

Anybody?

I love this movie! This is a good date flix.

But yeah, I agree: a UE version is a bit silly.

That movie was sooo bad and overrated. Julia Roberts can't act her way out of a paper bag. I suppose the one, or two fans of Notting Hill will enjoy The Ultamite Edtion. (snicker)

We will find out . And so will Universal. I think we should all want this title to do amazingly well.

Why you ask? Because if Universal realises that the ultimate editions of even movies such as Notting Hill sell they will be more accepting of supplying Ultimate editions of more films. The next film just might be one that we or you do care about.

If it sells we win

Notting Hill is worth sitting through most of it just for the Spike character.

That...

OR

They'll just start attaching the word ultimate to every DVD they release...which seems to be the trend. I don't think a romantic comedy should have an "Ultimate" edition, because when I think of "Ultimate" I think of break downs of special effects sequences, making ofs, how they did that thing with those things (and I'm really not partial to action movies). I mean how many interviews and HBO making of specials can you pack into a DVD...at what point does "special" become "ultimate"?

Regardless Istagi is right in that the studios would be more likely to release more "Ultimate" editions if this does well...I'm just worried about the tremendous weakening that the word "ultimate" going through at the hands of the studios.

Nice used to mean "not smart". Someday our kids will say:

"Ultimate used to mean the best, or last or most extreme."

Also, they seem to be applying the term "ultimate" to discs which have already garnished "special-editions". Really, is there that much more they can include that wasn't on the "special-editions?" Maybe, DTS and pan-n-scan (ugh), and maybe a commentary. Not much else....
