DVD Subtitles (Traffic, and CTHD)

I just bought Traffic, and when i was watching the movie, i noticed that you can turn off the english subtitles for the mexican portions of the film. This has to mean that the subtitles are not burned into the print. To me they look different than the ones that were in the movie when it was in theatres. Can anyone clear this up for me. I also wanted to know if the CTHD subtitles on the original Mandarin track are the same kind as the ones on traffic, or if they are the same as they were in the theatre. Thanks a lot.

this is becoming more and more common.. burned in subs in the theater becomming player generated subs on dvd. Charlies Angels is an example of the worst usage i have seen of this.
CTHD's subs are player generated also (you can turn them on and off), the ones in the theater were white and in a beautiful font, these are yellow and kinda fugly. i dont find it as distracting as charlie's angels or traffic though as the whole film is subbed and you dont suddenly have big yellow blocky letters jumping off the screen at you.

What's really funny is that different players will use different fonts. My sony player has pretty ugly fonts for cthd, but my panasonic has a wicked looking font, that really fits in well with the movie.

Once again, my panny impresses me.

The annoying thing is they could put ANY font they wanted and even have it animated (check out the Ghostbusters DVD commentary) instead of leaving it to the 'default' one in the player.

If they did a decent job on this I doubt anyone would complain about burnt on subs... Wait till you US guys see T1... hehehehe - boy are you gonna hate it!

I still can't understand how Cameron (the control freak he seems to be) is allowing MGM to do that to his movie without so much as a peep..
