Superman DVD news, are they pulling a lucas?

I read this today and thought hmmmm. george lucas

Superman (DVD): Superman Homepage reports that Warner Bros. held interviews last month to find a double for Christopher Reeve for additional footage they are shooting for an upcoming 14-disc Ultimate Edition Superman DVD collection later this year. It is not known if Brandon Routh was available or considered, but the scenes involved were only a couple of shots from a distance.

It doesnt sound bad, but we shall see

This would likely be to fill in footage gaps for the director's cut of Superman 2. Last I heard they were trying to cut it together into Donner's original vision, though reports varry on how possible that is.

I really wouldn't mind. Many of the second movie's effects looked terrible compared to the first movie, and if it's just to fill some gaps to make an almost complete Donner cut, I'm all for it. After all, the original version will be available as well in the 14-disc set.

Anybody elses jaw drop after you read this? There are only four movies, how do you get fourteen discs out of four movies? I mean I know you can fill 'em with all sorts of stuff about the comics and TV shows and such, but how much of it is honestly going to be worth watching?
Even if they include Superman Returns that's still a big friggin' boxset.

I think they should use one of these guys:
  • Bruce Willis
  • Samuel L Jackson
  • Don Cheadle

Peace...

Actually, there are five movies. The set will include the original four movies (Superman I-IV), and Superman Returns. There are two versions of each of the first four movies which account for 8 discs. I think 3 discs are reserved for Superman Returns and its extras, which leaves only 3 discs for other extras pertaining to the original movies.

Well if we do get a Donner cut of the 2nd movie i wonder if they will devote a whole 2nd disc to his vision. Superman Returns is also suppose to be included as well. So we are looking at basically 6 movies overall with each having a disc of extras. So we have 12 disc filled there and i guess we shall get that Look up in The Sky dvd that is coming out on the history of Superman through the years and i wonder if they will release Singer's Internet Production diaries on a disc like they did with King Kong

Actually, there are four originals plus Superman Returns, which is five.

There is a post somewhere that has the breakdown of all the discs, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Well its 6 if they give the Donner Cut its own dvd and give that a 2nd disc of extras as well. Like recovering the original film cells/scenes, cleaning and cutting the original stuff back into the film. An audio commentary by Dinner would be cool too

Using your math, there are 9 films.

My original post states two versions of each of the original movies, which would include the "Donner cut", plus Superman Returns.

No as the 2nd movie is the only one that would have a Donner Cut because he did the 1st and sort of had the 2nd one done before it was taken away from him. So in the end 6 movies in total .So it would work out like this (all movies being a 2-disc set)

Superman
Superman 2
Superman 2 - The Donner Cut
Superman 3
Superman 4
Superman Returns

Although i too heard rumors from a while ago talking about Supergirl getting in the box set release as well, but i would rather see them leave her out of it.

I've seen two references to this set. One indicates it will include Superman Returns and the other states Supergirl. Guess we'll have to wait for the official announcement.

It would seem if it was supergirl it would bank on the Superman Returns release and be released some time very very soon

So far it sounds great to me but i was hearing and hoping for some DTS sound on the movies. Hey maybe by then i will have a HD-DVD player and get the set for that format instead. Superman Returns was filmed on a Digital Camera
