James Bond DVD's, hitting the UK this summer, U.S. in the fall

Well, I also read up on what is going on with the bond dvd's today. Here is what I found

Meanwhile fans of the older films will be very keen to check out the upcoming 'Ultimate Edition' DVD releases later this year which will hit the UK mid-July and the US later this year. The discs will feature new art, special 5.1 surround sound remastering, new film transfers and extra special features. Most exciting is the video will employ all new 4K digital high definition transfers, utilising masters with four times the resolution of current high definition masters.

More details on the release can be found at MI6.

I dont have HD of any sort yet, but no way would I rebuy these in SD. If I didn't already own them, I might buy some, but after spending 200 on what I have.

There is a trailer for the US DVDs on the Underworld Evolution disc. Some quotes:

"The next level of DVD"

"frame by frame digital restoration"

"DTS 5.1"

"new footage from the Bond archives"

"2 disc sets"

Wow, thank God. When this was rumored a while back, I sold my original discs... I needed some cash and knew I would buy the reissues. I've been DYING without my Bond for a year now...

I'll probably get a few of the ones I don't have... but replacing the ones I've already got? I'll have to check them out, first. I'm interested to see how the restoration of the older films turned out, though.

Dude, if any movies ever are worth double-dipping on, it's freaking BOND.

Whoo-hoo!

Yeah... that's true... but it's like every time I tell myself I'm going to start spending less money, something irresistable like this comes along.

well I don't feel too violated about it, because I've kept my "spend less money on movies" promise recently. This will be a rare expenditure.

Yes, they are truly "must haves". Especially the Sean Connery/Roger Moore movies.

Is it a giant box set? Will they be released individually? If so will they all be released on the same day?

The HD version of all the movies have been airing this June on the Voom networks. They are unbelievable to watch!

I own 2 Bond DVDs right now, so this is something I'll definitely be interested in.

Peace...

I replaced none of my 3 Bond box sets after Hurricane Charley in anticipation of this. I'll be all over the 20 2 disc SD DVDs when they come out (thankfully after the 2006 hurricane season). I don't plan on going HD for several years (if ever), at least until one format is gone & the prices have gone down.

I cannot wait for these to come out. I picked up the initial releases back in the late 1990's when they first came out, and the only thing that I really wasn't happy with was the audio and video quality of the older movies. Sure they were better than VHS, but they didn't feel as "sharp" or "clean" as the newer ones. As time went by, I just wondered if they'd remaster the audio and video of the older movies and re-release the DVDs. I saw the trailer for the new releases, and the work they've done on these movies is remarkable. In what little I could see, the washed out colors and graininess were gone. Everything looked vibrant and sharp, and I cannot wait to hear how the audio tracks sound in a new DTS 5.1 makeup. Time to start saving money so I can afford the high price tag for these 20 movies.

I'm not going to rebuy the reissues. I'm happy enough with the current releases I have and may rent a couple of the new ones to check out the Roger Moore commentary.

I've been rewatching these movies lately. I forgot how terrible the video transfer was on these dvd's. They will really be worth it if they clean up the video transfer.
