There she is, back in that chair again.

I'm not excited about this but I'll definitely check it out when it's out.

I believe I've already added this to my Netflix queue.

Peace...

the first one is a cherished memory from my teens so I'll be checking this one out. I might even buy the blu-ray version just to see some air brushed boney hiney in all its HD glory. I know its going to be horrible and about 10 years too late, but I am always in the mood for something so bad its good.

I watched this last night and it was nowhere near as good as the first movie. Sharon Stone was hot and the only other scene that did it for me was
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
when the Dr mounted that lass from behind. Did you notice her smile as she flipped over onto her hands and knees? Boo-Yah!

I think Clive Owen would have made a much better leading man bu the might have overshadowed Sharon Stone.

Peace...

I think Clive's career is going pretty good that he can pick the scripts to choose from. Basic Instinct 2 has pretty much been an attempt to resurrect Sharon Stone's career, which still looks like it's flatlining. She is still good in supporting roles, but I don't think she will be the main lead in any more films.

I actually liked the new guy, David Morrissey. He reminded me of a young Liam Neeson.

I was hoping Basic Instinct 2 would be nastier and raunchier than the first film. Unfortunately, studio execs didn't want to go this direction.

True but I wasn't thinking from the perspective of his career but from the perspective of anything to help make the movie better.

How dare you mention Clive Owen in a post about Basic Instinct. For shame.

Sat down last night with a few people and watched Basic Instinct 1 and 2.

Clive Owen would have ROCKED as the doctor! That may have brought the film up from being just a sequel to a 15 year old movie to a film with something behind it.
David Morrissey reminded me of Liam Neeson too!

The best thing I can say about 2 is that the picture quality of the standard def DVD was really really great. It was a totally clean print, tons of fine detail in close ups, and some of the best black levels I have ever seen. The movie takes place mostly at night and everyone but Stone wears black trenchcoats. You could see finely smoothed out pores on Sharon Stone's face and every whisker on the detective and the doctor. Btw, Detective David Thewlis needs to get a lint brush. His black coat was pretty covered in dust and lint for most of the movie. Maybe it was some werewolf hair lingering on from Harry Potter 3.

As for the film, I was so prepared for it to suck more than anything I have ever seen that I was pleasently suprised with it. It tried a bit to hard to reference the first film in a couple spots (the book 'Shooter' popping up and Stone mentioning Douglas's character Nick Curran), but otherwise it was a solid murder-mystery-thriller.

As a Basic Instinct sequel it was a pale shadow of the original, but as a movie it was not terrible. I even found myself wondering how things were going to wrap up towards the end of the film and who was going to come out on top.

If you have nothing better to spend your $5 on and everything else has been rented, and you can't think of a better way to spend 2+ hours, I say see Basic Instinct 2.

I actually sorta liked it. It's trash, but it's reasonably well-made trash. Morrissey was extremely bland, however. Nice to hear Jerry Goldsmith's music again, as well.
