Great News! Very glad The Wizard will be released in Widescreen, I was worried Universal would pull a fullscreen only on us since it's labeled as a family film. You may count me in also

Nothing like seeing Beau Bridges getting all excited while playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I just rented the tape about 3 weeks ago, after hearing about it, and I was contemplating buying one of the the tapes on Amazon, but I'm glad that I waited. I'll be picking this up when it comes out.

finally!

damn, it's about time!

and i'm also glad it's in WS..

hopefully it'll get released without any delays.

i also wish universal would re-release some other 80s/90s comedy classics like parenthood, twins, kindergarten cop, etc. in their original aspect ratio (or even problem child/problem child 2)! anyone have any news on those titles? i know some of them are cheesy looking back, but they do bring back memories! haha

now, if we can get monster squad on dvd i'll feel pretty complete for my "movies i loved as a kid" on dvd.

Universal released Problem Child 1&2 back in 2004 on a single disc titled Problem Child : Tantrum Pack, The only problem is that their both fullscreen. I was dissapointed because originally i heard they would both be Anamorphic. Hopefully Universal will sharpen up and re-release these classic 90's comedies in Widescreen, Esp Kindergarten Cop

Did they play Mario 2 or 3 in this film?

Apparently the "wizard" is still working. http://imdb.com/name/nm0250180/

The coolest thing about this movie when it came out was..that they played Super Mario Bros. 3 and it wasn't even out yet. So it was neat seeing that game before it came out. This movie along with The Last Starfighter and Tron were 3 of my most favorite movies when I was growing up, so this is good news to me. I know the movie is cheesy..but it's got good memories for me too.

i couldn't find it at my local circuit city or best buy. best buy even said that they don't carry it in-store and none of the local bb's carry neither (the guy checked their system).

i guess i'll try walmart sometime this week, otherwise i'll get it off DDD or amazon

Yeah, you can pick this up pretty cheap...I remember when this came out, it was such a big deal because of Super Mario 3...I just watched it yesterday...yeah, it is kind of cheesy, but it also has a lot of heart...

While watching the movie I noticed something I never could on my grainy VHS copy, one of Lucas' buddies and Video Armageddon was Spiderman himself, Tobey Maguire. He had a full child mullet going, but I was sure it was him. I double checkd imdb afterwards and sure enough they said he had an uncredited role in the movie.

I seem to recall that at the same time they released this into theatres, they release SMB3 into arcades, or more specifically those Nintendo multi-game arcade cabinets. I remember the movie theatre had one. That was before the game was ever released for home use.

I remember they had advertising brochures for the game in the theatre... I walked out holding one and was like "mom PLEASE buy it" and she was all like "save you allowance for it" and I was like "bitch..."

I noticed something the other day...when the truckers are cornering the sleazy P.I. guy, the truck that Spankey drives is the same truck that Sly had in Over the Top...it's dressed a little differently, but if you look closely, when he gets out, you can see "Hawk Hauling" on the door...

I still have my Power Glove. Of course, I had to get it after watching the movie, but I only used it for Mike Tyson's Punch Out briefly and it was a hassle to set up. What I never got was this guy:

He seemed pretty useless.

I actually saw SMB3 before it came out in The Wizard, because my friend in my neighborhood had the Japanese version. His dad was some international businessman, and he got the game for my friend. Didn't understand a thing of what was written, but we got to play the game. I was definitely not a wizard, because I never found the secret items like he did.

I had the Japanese SMB3 before it came out in the United States,
so everyone was extremely jealous. And by the way, ganthc,
your friend in your neighborhodd, was that by any chance..... me?

I used to live in Vienna, VA during those years and went to Stenwood Elem.

That was R.O.B. (Robot Operated Buddy) the Robot, he was used in the game Gyromite, he would pick up the little spinning tops and put them on the red or blue buttons and pick them up from button to button to raise and lower pistons so you character can sleep walk across the screen

Well, since I was born and raised in Texas, it's not likely. If you still might think I'm familiar you can check the fess up page that I just bumped and look at the last page. My pics are on there. I've only lived in Vienna for a little over a year.

But I must admit I was jealous of my friend who had the game. He also had twice as many games as me. Still, I was always fairly satisfied with my collection. I do remember that I got TMNT 2 before anyone else at school, and that's still a fun game to play.
