"Blade Runner: Final Cut" will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special edition DVD with the three previous versions offered as alternate viewing: Besides the original theatrical version and director's cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials."
Nice!

I guess someone finally waved enough money under Jerry Perenchio's nose that even he couldn't say no anymore. Good news. Hopefully it'll get a hd-dvd or blu-ray release as well.

Wow. Sounds like a big set. Can't wait to pick it up. Hopefully, I'll be able to catch it in theatres, too.

This is really great news. It's about damn time that they up and release this thing. I might get this new remastered Director's Cut to tide me over until I get the set.

Seeing as it's a 2007 release I'd say a HD release is a given unless both formats sink

I'm all over this.

Sorry, the (Blade Runner) nerd in me must correct you...

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost in time, like tears...in rain. Time to die."

I was talking about Blade Runner with a friend of mine who writes, illustrates and publishes his own graphic novels and he thinks that Batty's soliloquy was cheesy, "What was that?" I, on the other hand, love it.

This news does rule! I can't wait!

Warner has announced a fully restored and remastered Blade Runner: The Director's Cut which stars Harrison Ford. The disc will be available to own from the 12th September, and should retail at around $19.97. The film will be presented in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English and French Dolby 2.0 Stereo Surround tracks. We have no word on any extra material at this time, but we'll bring you further details shortly. We should also point out that Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Scott’s definitive new version of his science-fiction masterpiece will arrive next year to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the film. This will contain three alternate versions of Blade Runner: the Original U.S. Theatrical Cut, the Expanded International Theatrical Cut and the 1992 Director’s Cut. Stay tuned for further details.
This is really interesting.

Both this, and the previous press release, only seem to talk about a DVD release for the 92 Director's Cut, the European cut, and the original theatrical cut.
That's 3 editions, folks.
And NONE of them are the Final Cut that everyone's been asking for.

So although just about everyone says they're looking forward to the "big" 3-version release, I can't see why - it reads to me like the Final Cut is only going to be in theaters.

Can anyone confirm that there is a release date for Ridley Scott's so-far-unreleased Final Cut on DVD anywhere, for anytime?

I can answer the "why" for me:

I love, love, LOVE the voiceover in the theatrical cut. Yeah, I know, the ending isn't the good ending, but that's alright. I know how it really ends anyway, and the voiceover enhances the other 145 minutes to the point where the last 10 doesn't really matter. Hell, if I'm really keen I could always switch the disc for the director's cut right at the end.

Everywhere I've heard mention of this BR release, they keep talking about how it's the Final Cut of the film, with the extra stuff that's been missing all these years....

It's strange to me that as far as I can tell, most people think this BR 3-disc is gonna be the one they've been waiting for 20 years, when AFAIK it's just the Euro, '92 Director's Cut (same as that came out last week) and the theatrical cut.

I can totally understand wanting all 3 versions, but is anyone in-the-know on this one?
Why does it seem like everyone that talks about it is making the 3 disc out to be some final cut, Ridley-Scott-approved extra-material version?

Everything I read about it originally said that he was indeed working on a final cut of the movie, and the 3 other versions are included as "extra" versions in addition to the new cut.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm assuming it's still going to be like that.

This mentions flavor text that insinuates that it is a final cut, "new version", but every detail I've seen has stated as above - 3 versions, none of which is the fabled Final Cut of Bladerunner.

I would be very interested in hearing details anywhere that specifies that the 3 disc version will be the legendary version that includes many things that were cut out of all the versions shown so far.

AFAIK, the Final Cut extended version is only in THEATERS next year.

OK, these are region 4 specs, but hopefully region 1 will get a similar set (and if we get something lesser, looks like a lot of us with region-free players will be importing):

Blade Runner - Ultimate Collection

Disc 1 - The Final Cut (2007):

* Ridley Scott's definitive new version of his science-fiction masterpiece includes added & extended scenes, added lines and new and cleaner special effects.

Disc 2 - 3 Complete Film Versions:

* ’82 International Theatrical version
* ’92 Director’s Cut

Disc 3 - “Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner” Documentary

* Newly created documentary: Through interviews with the cast and crew, critics and colleagues, this feature-length documentary provides a mainstream-friendly yet meaningful in-depth look at Blade Runner’s literary genesis, its challenging production and controversial legacy. When all is said and done, this will be the definitive documentary on the film.

Disc 4 – Enhanced Content Bonus: (TBC)

* INCEPTION - Featurettes and galleries devoted to Philip K. Dick, the birth of Cyberpunk and adapting the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
* PRE-PRODUCTION - Featurettes and galleries devoted to script development, conceptual design and abandoned sequences.
* PRODUCTION - Featurettes and galleries devoted to principal photography and locations.
* POST-PRODUCTION - Featurettes and galleries devoted to deleted scenes, music and visual effects.
* RELEASE - Featurettes and galleries devoted to marketing and reaction including Trailers, TV Spots and Promotional Featurettes

That cover art is nice. I like the case as well, but I doubt we'll get anything anywhere near as cool as that here.

I just hope HD-DVD gets all the bonus features/different versions. Packaging is great and all, and I'm a sucker for it, but I want the content most-of-all.

Am I the only one in the world who thinks this is one of the most overrated movies ever. I see and hear all the chat on it and that it's one of the most defining sci-fi movies ever but it really isn't. There are many more superior sci-fi movies not only from that timeframe but before and after it was made. Give me Carpenter' "The Thing" any day from the same year and it kicks it's ass on every viewing. I saw this as a kid in the theaters when it came out and a few times on VHS and DVD since then over the years and I've tried and treid to see what it is about the movie that gets everybody so jazzed but fail to put my finger on it. I just get bored with it every time and think it's a major snoozefest.
Anybody else out agree ?

I too find the movie a bit dull, but it's still good overall and I'm looking forward to this release.

But you are comparing sci-fi horror with sci-fi drama. It's apples to oranges really. What there is to appreciate about Blade Runner is how greatly Ridley Scott visualized a possible future and he did it with grit and not the usual clean and sterile route so overly used in sci-fi flicks. Sure the pacing might be slow but there are a ton of subtle nuances that make the world believable making it easy to get absorbed in to the fiction. I felt the movie was really ahead of it's time due to what audiences expected out of sci-fi at that time (post Star Wars). Fast action, explosions, creatures/aliens, crazy physics defying worlds and fantastical technology. Blade Runner is a crime drama set in an amazing realized future (more probable than most other futures depicted even in more modern hollywood movies, imo).

If it's not your cup of tea that cool. Different strokes and all that jazz
