Brokeback Special Edition

Any word on a special edition?...for such a celebrated film, would be nice to have a worthwhile dvd release.

No doubt the insert would be in the rear of the disk case.

Sorry I had to do it.

Alot of people would be taking it in the rear if they had to buy this movie twice.

I'm hoping so, but considering it has taken 3 years for Universal to release a SE of "21 Grams" I'm not holding my breath.

It would be great if Criterion released something along the lines of what they did for "Dazed & Confused". That was one sweet DVD.

Yeah, and did you notice over at DVDactive.com they listed a menu shot for the next SE of 21 Grams and all that is included bonus is an eighteen minute 'In Fragments' making of featurette. What a joke!

I did notice that. If Universal is really not interested in doing anything 'special' with these films should license them to Criterion.
"21 Grams" is another that Criterion would do justice to as a Special Edition.

You know there will be a HD edition available and, grunting aside, it'll look beautiful.

I hope so. I've been waiting patiently for it to be released on HD. It should look stunning.

I will be picking this up. Surely there will be more bonus features than were on the new 21 Grams Special Edition, Brokeback Mountain had a much bigger audience. Plus, I already sold my other Brokeback Mountain DVD so I don't want to have to buy it again.

I would really like two commentaries; one with Ang Lee, and other other with Heath Ledger and Jake.

A 45 minute or longer documentary about the creation of the novel/screeplay/film project and the fuss surrounding it would be sweet.

HD DVD RELEASE ON SAME DAY.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the HD DVD release of Brokeback Mountain (Collector’s Edition) for 23rd January 2007 priced at $34.98 SRP. Winner of three Academy Awards®, including Best Director, Ang Lee’s gripping drama comes to HD DVD in collector’s edition form on the same day as the standard definition DVD release.

A HD DVD / DVD Combo release Brokeback Mountain is presented in 1080P 1.85:1 Widescreen with English, French (DDP5.1) and Spanish (DDP2.0) audio and subtitle options on Side A, and in standard definition on Side B. The full array of special features expected on this release are still TBC, but we do know you can expect all-new bonus features, never-before-seen footage and collectible packaging (including postcards).

According to DavisDVD and DVDtimes the new Special Edition isn't so special at all, The extras are close to exactly the same as the first release.

Featurettes:
Sharing The Story: The Making of Brokeback Mountain
A Groundbreaking Success
Music From The Mountain
Directing From The Heart
From Script to Screen

Still Gallery and Postcards. Also included.

Universal brought back their old "Collector's Edition" logo that they put on their old discs like 12 Monkeys and The Thing. Those still rank as some of my favorite discs, maybe this one will be sweet.

The only reason I will be buying the Collector's Edition of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is because I will be buying the HD DVD version. Having it in Hi Def is substantial enough for me for an upgrade. But those without Hi Def the upgrade is a scam.

I just Universal does justice to the film with a pristine HD-DVD.

There would be no excuse for them if it wasn't anything but stunning. It should be reference quality.

It's a great movie and I would upgrade in a heartbeat if there was substantial new content, but as it is I will be skipping this one and sticking with my original DVD from April. I'm surprised they couldn't even be bothered to include a commentary; considering Lee did one for Hulk, it's disappointing. Shame on Universal.
