The Question Nobody Wants to Answer!!
Ok, well I have over 300 DVDs and I keep getting new ones every week. Sure at one time they are going to stop releasing older flicks because all of them will be on DVD, but how about the new flicks? Where will I store all my DVDs? This is a question that my girlfriend keeps asking me and I keep avoiding it. Will I keep the DVDs I don't like much in the closet and the ones that I LOVE in the DVD rack? I want to hear what you guys think. Answer the question, if you dare!!!

Well, I don't have as many as some people, but at nearly 400 DVDs, I'm considering turning one of the walls in my room into a large bookcase. With what I'm thinking, it will hold several thousand movies, so that would make me set for a while.

at just a couple dozen shy of 1000,... let me tell you,... it ain't easy. I just have a mishmash of 4 huge racks right now. I wish I could find (or have made) a nice "Floor to Ceiling" shelving unit that will span my entire wallspace.

Having a portable DVD player, I keep my measly 130 movies in a CD Travel case, and keep the cases in my closet. As I get more movies, I will get larger travel cases; I figure that'll hold me till about 2000 or so when I can't take all the cases with me everywhere, so I'll have a "greatest hits" album I'll keep with me.

Here's what I did. I have a hall closet with a light.
We turned it into a "entertainment closet". I put in four 72 inch high bookshelves, 2 on each side and two shorter same style/brand (probably 32 inches high) in the rear. The back wall of the closet graduates downward as the closet is built under a stair well. We store all of our DVD's and CD's in there, plus what little VHS we have left and a couple dozen LD's. To maximize the shelving I ordered 16 extra shelf boards from the manufacture, which the sold in pairs of 2, shipped for $17.99. $17.99 x 8) Not too bad. Each tall shelf will hold approximately 448 DVD's each or 720 CD's each. I got 4 tall shelves and 2 short ones. The two shorties basically equal one tall one, so basically I got 5 tall shelves. I could store roughly 2,240 DVD's or 3,600 CD's. I killed two birds with one stone. Since the closet graduates in the rear, we store holiday stuff, (Christmas decorations, etc) behind the two short shelves in the remaining closet space. Out of sight. Not too bad. Also to keep everything in place we got these shelf protectors from Ikea which will prevent stuff from sliding off in the event of earthquake, etc. Those were $1.99 a pair and we bought probably about 40 pairs. -Flash |
