I guess I would consider myself a newbie to the world of anime as well. I just watched and bought "Princess Mononoke". I would start with that. I tried watching Akira years ago, and couldn't get into it. I might try again with the new DVD. Oh, I also really enjoyed "Ghost in the Shell". OK, that's all I've seen.

The first anime film i watched was the ghost in the shell. All my friends were raving about it, not only because they were shocked at it violent content, but because it actually had a really good story line, and was a decent film. It is very complexed and on a can be seen as incredibly philisophical. It doesnt just exploit the violence. But saying that, it is simply an awesome film. Princess Monoke i would also recomend. But see if u like anime, and THEN buy akira.

This thread is pretty much the same as this one, started just a little while ago: http://www.dvdfile.com/interactive/f...ML/003737.html
But since we're here... Akira is considered one of the great works of Japanese animation, and it is also one of the most well known in North America. It is an excellent film, hands down. Ghost in the Shell is another popular one but I've never been a big fan of it, but mostly because I was hooked on the comic first and I didn't think that the anime really lived up to it. Princess Mononoke is also great. It has an all-star American voice cast (Gillian Anderson, Claire Danes, Billy Bob Thornton and others) and was the highest grossing animated film in Japan. Anyway, check out the other thread for more suggestions. ------------------ It cost Mike Tyson $3 million (he forfeited 10% of the fight purse) when he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear in a boxing match. Assuming that piece of ear weighed about 1/2 an ounce, Bill [Gates] could afford to eat 515.34 pounds of Evander Holyfield if he were so inclined. |
