I WANT FIVESTAR APES
Damn, you Fox! You had the perfect oppurtuntiy to re-release the Planet of the Apes films in boffo special eds, but you chose to release the same damn terrible set to 'MGM' the clods who will buy it after seeing the new horrible-looking Apes film! Look, When Fox made ID4 a five Star I wasn't angry, but when they totally ignored the film that saved their studio as it was about to be Michael Cimmino'd by the original Doctor Dolittle and go bankrupt - I just couldn't contain my anger. It's not fair! Cleopatra and ID4 both really suck and should not have been given FS treatment over a film like Planet of the Apes, c'mon people. |

I bought the POTA box when it first came out, and while I think it's pretty good for what it is -- especially considering that Fox delayed it for a year -- I agree that the at least the first one should be a Five Star.
And though it really doesn't relate to the POTA DVDs... I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z, no you'll never make a monkey out of me. Oh my god, I was wrong, it was Earth all along. You finally made a monkey, yes you finally made a monkey out of me. I love you, Dr. Zaius! |

Was the 5 star label even invented when Fox released POTA?
Of course they could still have made it a special edition... It is kinda ironic to see that the imminent sepearately released documentary on POTA will have more extras than the actual movies ![]() |

When POTA was released on DVD, Fox still had only the vaguest notion of what a special feature was, so the box set was quite plain. The first REALLY special edition Fox put out was Fight Club, which came out months after POTA; but now that Fox has a grip on the whole Special Edition/Five Star/Uber-edition groove, we should see rereleases of a lot of movies with added footage, commentaries, etc.
BTW, ID4 is one of the best disaster movies ever, and a good throwback to the disaster movies of the 50's, and I think it deserved the Five-Star treatment. The added footage gave more depth to the movie, and I liked the alternate ending. ------------------ "Aren't you dead?" -Kirk, to Spock; Star Trek II |

Okay, Tim Burton is cool and although both trailers haven't impressed me, I'll be the first in line on the 27th. Maybe the trailers don't do the movie justice and we could get a good movie as was the case with X-Men. What everyone forgets is that Fox released their greatest DVD ever, the Special Edition of Alien, before the Apes discs were put out, the delay should have given them time to make special editions, but they just wanted to take advantage of consumers. Fox just might be the best DVD producer of the big studios that's why the Apes situation hurts so much. Even Paramount releases everything anamorphic. |

When the Alien set came out, the quality and extras were quite a rarity for Fox at the time. When Apes came out, they had announced that that was the last non-anamorphic release that they would put out. I think they've stuck with that.
