I'm a huge fan of horror movies, but I have found nothing to enjoy in Fulci films. They're poorly made and dull and he seemed to hire actors with the most genuine deer-caught-in-the-headlights look, more than even the worst Troma movies (see "Beware: Children At Play," or rather, don't see it).
I've suggested a few movies to you before Hank, I don't know if you ever saw "Brain Damage," or "From Beyond." I assume you have seen a wide variety of cult films, so I would suggest some Region 3 DVD's of any movie made by Takashi Miike. The only one available to rent in this country is "Fudoh: The New Generation," and you can only find that on VHS. It isn't a horror movie per se, but it tops almost anything done by Raimi or Jackson (almost) in terms of sheer excess in sex and gore. He is extremely imaginative in a purely decadent way. Other than "Fudoh," there is "The Audition," (which I haven't seen, but is both a horror movie, and apparently one of his best) and "Dead or Alive," which has a rather dull middle section, comparitively, but has one of the greatest opening five minutes and closing ten minutes ever committed to film. George Lucas once said that those were the only important parts of a movie anyway. Of course, with Miike's films you'll need to suspend complete disbelief and have a strong stomach. He has made eight other films, and apparently makes about two films a year. http://us.imdb.com/Name?Miike,+Takashi I have already emailed Media-Blasters (jsirabella@media-blasters.com) about getting more of his stuff released here, and I reccommend you do the same. ------------------ Arrogance is bliss |

I was on a Fulci kick this past week and watched:
The Beyond City of the Dead The House By The Cemetery They were all lacking something. I couldn't recommend any of these really. Watching each disc was tedious and verged on annoying. The acting was so, so. . .bad. They did have a couple of decent "gore" shots, but that's about it. ------------------ Moderator | Eye ::.. |

Lucio Fulci is an aquired taste. Some love him and some hate him. And until you see his body of work, only then can you decide what side of the fence you're on. We have a handful of his films reviewed on my site.

Hopefully I will find Brain Damage. Fulci is too risky to have a marathon with especially since some people might get bored etc..,
I really want to start things off with something suspensful and almost realistic. Like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but we've allready watched that one enough. Need something overlooked along the way. |
