The lack of Cronenberg films on DVD

I've just finished watching David Cronenberg's "The Brood" for the first time, and I thought it was a brilliant horror film. What really made it great was Howard Shore's fantastic score. All that aside, after I watched it I wondered wether it was on DVD or not. I discovered it wasn't, and then saw that many other Cronenberg films have also yet to be released on DVD. "Scanners" comes out this fall, so that's good, but there are still so many Cronenberg films that really should be relased. "M Butterfly", "Naked Lunch", and "Fast Company" are all good films that haven't been released yet. In addition to this, I'd really like to see the Criterion edition of "Crash" on DVD with the laserdisc commentary by Cronenberg, and to see special editions of any of Cronenberg's other material would be nice. Does anybody have any information on possible DVD releaes of these "lost" Cronenberg gems?

Thanx,
Brook

Videodrome, and The Dead Zone were released, with hardly any extras. Videodrome didn't have the greatest transfer. Fox very stupidly decided to put Cron's brilliant updating of The Fly on a double feature disc with it's terrible sequel rather than dishing out the special edition for the film.

I fear for Scanners, because last I heard MGM had it. Criterion did a nice, yet as usual, overpriced disc for Dead Ringers.

Yeah, I've noticed this crappyness vis-a-vis David Cronenburg as well. Too bad the Videodrome transfer is crap, I wanted to get it. I own eXistenZ (capital "X", capital "Z") and it's actually a pretty good DVD; it's got two director's comentaries, one by Cronenburg and one by some other guy (I haven't listened to it).

It cost Mike Tyson $3 million (he forfeited 10% of the fight purse) when he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear in a boxing match. Assuming that piece of ear weighed about 1/2 an ounce, Bill [Gates] could afford to eat 515.34 pounds of Evander Holyfield if he were so inclined.

I heard that the Canadian DVD of "eXistenZ" is far superior to the American one put out by Disney. Is this true?

I really would like to see a new version of "Videodrome". I have yet to see the current DVD version, as I have the VHS and have been watching that. I'm excited about "Scanners", though. Just to see it in widescreen would be good. I find it strange that there's a fairly decent DVD of "Shivers", one of his least known films, yet there is still not a good edition of "Videodrome". Overall, though, I think I'd really like to see the Criterion version of "Crash" on DVD, even though New Line's edition had a pretty nice transfer and contained the NC-17 rated version. A David Cronenberg commentary is just such a joyful thing!

Thanx,
Brook

Yes the Canadian version is way better. It had a documentary that the American version lacks.
