What is edge enhancment?

I hope im right with this one.

But my major guess is that edge enhancement results in colors not blending in as they should. It is noticable when you see a slight blue edge to the left of faces, shirts etc.., I noticed almsot all discs have some sort of this except The Fifth Element, Ferris Buellers and Toy Story 2. However, I want to know if thats what edge enhancement is?

Hank, here is a link about edge enhancement. I wasn't too sure what it was till I read this.
Everything you wanted to know about edge enhancement, but were afraid to ask

Hope this helps

That was a really good article and explanation, but to be honest, I think I will have a hard time ever noticing, cause I sure do now. Even in those pictures it was hard to tell any real "loss." But at least I know now what it means.

correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't the rings/ripple effects of Edge enhancement be related to Fourier Transforms?

Well I know its completly pointless to have any edge enhancement. Its actually a slap in the face telling people you do not know how to use your tvs. Such a crock of shit really

Yes, it's an old sinasour of the VHS days that doesn't belong in the DVD world.

after trying really really hard to see what they were talking about on that link, my eyes are all blurry and painful...

my opinion? yes, the transfers with less edge enhancement are better. but if you think this is a life-or-death issue, you need a smaller TV, or you need to back away from your screen.

I saw the edge enhancement in the article, but I don't concentrate on that sort of thing, I'm usually too busy watching the movie.
