I don't think we'll ever see the miniseries version of The Shining, even though it is a much more coherent than the feature film. As far as movie quality goes, Kubrick wins hands down, but as a Stephen King fan, the miniseries was the better adaptation. Stanley Kubrick made Stephen King agree to never release any home version of The Shining in order to agree to give King the rights. Hopefully Kubrick's estate will have a change of heart, I'd love to have this version on DVD as well. I've found that both versions actually complement each other very nicely. Funny thing is: As a horror movie, I've heard that King LOVES Kubrick's version, but as an adaptation of his book, he's not a fan at all.
Anyway, sorry to get off topic. To get back on topic. Here's my wish list: All 6 Star Wars movies Friday the 13th part VI (PLEASE have the video for Alice Cooper's awesome theme song) Ed Wood: SE The African Queen White Heat High Anxiety Indiana Jones Trilogy Highlander: SE (Let's get a decent transfer please) UHF Both Bill & Ted movies Cheers (Complete series) Seinfeld (Complete series) MST3K (Complete series) Get A Life (Complete series) Airheads Batman: SE Batman Forever: SE Amadeus: SE Goodfellas: SE Also, Universal PLEASE get the rights to all the Marx Brothers movies and do some restoration on them. Horse Feathers is in pretty sorry shape with dropped frames all throughout certain scenes. Also PLEASE release for the first time: A Night at the Opera A Day at the Races |

ALL the Argento movies ("Four Flies on Gery Velvet", "Two Evil Eyes", and "Trauma" have yet to be announced.)
ALL of the David Lynch movies. "Eraserhead" "Wild at Heart" AND FOR GOD SAKE, PLEEEEEEEASE "LOST HIGHWAY"!!!!!!!!! "Dial M for Murder" with the original 3-D version as an option, much like "Freddy's Dead", and an OPTIONAL dts audio track. A special edition of "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" with commentary by David Mirkin. ...and my ULTIMATE wish: A 4-disc edition of "Dawn of the Dead". The first 3 discs would contain the 3 different version of the film, the theatrical cut, the director's cut, and the Dario Argento cut. Each would contain commentary by the people involved with that particular version, and special features that pertain to each of the different versions. All of the films newly remastered with new digital soundtracks in addition to the original ones. The fourth disc would contain the soundtrack to the Dario Argentocut, as that one contains more music by Goblin, my favorite musicians! Kind of a tall order, but oh well. Thanx, Brook ------------------ Go to the missing title art gallery for fun comics, creative writing, and original short films! or, visit Cheap Thrills ...or more? for lots of horror cinema fun! |

A big seconding for Top Secret!. It's got to be one of the best ZAZ movies... I've got the widescreen laserdisc but one side is cracked and all I can watch is the frst 2/3rds. Argh.
Also UHF. This comedy classic deserves a new audience. As for the others, Wild in the Streets Seconds (1966) Solarbabies Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life (a decent transfer, maybe some extras too?) a 16x9 George of the Jungle probably more if I thought about it... I'll second the request for ED WOOD and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, and add HOLD THAT GHOST (Abbott & Costello), NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK and IT'S A GIFT (W.C. Fields), at least the first two THIN MAN movies, any of Laurel & Hardy's sound comedies, particularly THE MUSIC BOX and SONS OF THE DESERT. That's enough comedies. Music-wise, I'd love to see THE JOLSON STORY and James Whale's SHOW BOAT. Universal is releasing a slew o' monster movies late this summer, but no INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN or THE BLACK CAT (1934 version). Add Roger Corman's THE RAVEN and MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, and some of the AIP/Allied Artists creepfests of the 1950s, like ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS and NOT OF THIS EARTH and FROM HELL IT CAME and I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF.
And of course KING KONG. |
