T2 Ultimate Edition-August 21 release?!

Im SO confused! Was just looking on the Amazon.com website and noticed that in their future releases section, we have T2 Unlimate Edition all over again on August 21!
I noticed that there are 3 commentaties listed, one by the crew, one by Cameron and one by Arnie. Have they been naughty and waited till everyone bought it them slapped on 3 commentaires to make us buy it again, or have I completely lost the plot this time! Aaagh!

I didn't go over every aspect of the first "Ultimate Edition", but I don't recall an audio commentary being featured on it.

This totally fucking blows if the went and snuck this one by us.

I thought T2 came out in August of last year. Actually, no it didn't...I've gone mad!

This is weird. When I searched for "Terminator 2" this is the only DVD that came up for that title, so I would think it could be a rerelease, or Amazon thinks it is. In the past, I've also seen Armageddon and Moonstruck listed as being released on a certain date, even though they were available for a long time beforehand. This has to be a mistake since:

-The aspect ratio is listed as 1.85:1
-Three commentaries-I doubt they could add those without sacrificing quality, what with DD 5.1EX and DTS-ES soundtracks already

Remember, this is the same site that had Back to the Future II and III listed a couple of months back.

This is true. Mistakes can be made and thinking about it I dont see that they would re-release the Ultimate Edition without there being a major industry hoo-ha!

Yeah, its just a mistake, a horrible mistake. Please let it be a mistake!

There is an audio commentary on the UE released last year. It features almost every cast & crew member you can think of. Shit, I think they even got the caterers in there. It was obviously edited together from many sources, so three commentaries could be a possibility, but would not be neccessarry because after going through that disc(s), there is no reason to know anymore about the movie.

That's odd! I was actually looking to buy this title a week or two ago and found it at buy.com for only $20.99! But then they had the release date as 8/21/01. I thought, "that's bizarre." and so I didn't order it because I didn't want to somehow get screwed. I rechecked and buy.com still has it on this date and at this price (at least $10 cheaper than anywhere else). It only lists the one commentary with 26 cast and crew members.

Go figure.

Perhaps this is just a re-issue without the metal case?

Man, that would suck if it were true, but I've only watched the T2 DVD twice. There's so much stuff on there, it's a little overwhelming.

Amazon has done this before.
what happened was that they sold out of the T2:UE and wanted more so they went to the ditribution center ordered them and they will be getting them on the date previously posted under this topic.

Everyone can calm down...this is NOT a new release of T2: Ultimate Edition. Amazon.com has ALWAYS erroneously listed separate commentaries by Cameron, Arnie, etc. when in reality it's just one commentary with everyone on it. This is just a mistake, so you can relax. The Ultimate Edition came out last year on August 29th.

Yes, this is true. They have always done this. This same thing used to happen at DVD Express too.

so, is buy.com making the exact same mistake at the same time as amazon? And why is it so cheap at buy.com?

In the retail world, products are often "re-issued" after an initial release. This is common with products like DVDs, video games, and music CDs that originally included special packaging (such as a metal cover, holographic cover, etc.) for the initial run.

These re-issues also generally have a different UPC (bar) code than the original product.

If someone is simply feeding UPCs and descriptions into the databases at Amazon or Buy (or better yet if they have an "automatic update" from their vendors) it is likely that the different UPC set off a "new item" flag and was automatically set up as such. This is a common occurrence in retail stores, and I'm sure it happens on web sites as well.

Of course, it could just be a screw up.
