Wayne's World...WTF???

Am I missing something? From what I've read Wayne's World which is a "SPECIAL EDITION", only contains an audio commentary and the trailers.

How does this justify calling these movies special editions?

well if you think about it, the term "special edition" is meaningless. it's like the term "all natural." it's just something manufacturers can slap on packaging to make the product seem more appealing.

They're 'special' because there's nothing else like them in the whole wide world.

Seriously, I got no clue. Then again, it doesn't take much nowadays to label anything 'special'.

It use to NOT be that way. I guess now "Special Edition" means "regular edition" until the studio releases the "ultimate edition" the following year.

I'm sure we will soon see the studios release a definitive edition just as soon as they grow tired with the ultimate edition!

Where do you see it called a special edition? Paramount has never called one of their discs a special edition so that if they release it in the future as a "True" special edition, it will be worthy of the label.

Do a search for it over at http://www.dvdplanet.com and you'll see.
Also Kencranes.com but they are the same as DVDPLANET.com

No where on the cases does it say SPECIAL EDITION. These are standard releases and anyone who told you they were special was just plain wrong.

Right. Paramount is not calling Wayne's World a Special Edition. If someone else is doing it, there's nothing they can do about it. The only title Paramount's ever called a Special Edition, to my knowledge, is the upcoming Forrest Gump two-disc set. I think it's the first time they're using the term.

DVDPlanet is mis-leading their customers because it's titled as a Special Edition on their web site.
But I also checked Amazon, it's not titled as a special edition there.
I wonder why DVD Planet would incorrectly title the movie?

Just FYI
The box is labeled Widescreen Collection not Special Edition.

In any case, the term "Special Edition" means absolutely nothing unless there's also a "Regular Edition" to chose from, now does it?
So many "Special Editions" are actually "Regular Editions" if only for the fact that there are no alternatives to chose from. Ah the studios ant their terminology

When a DVD is referred to as "special Edition", it is because there is a not-so-special edition available on VHS. Even though the VHS versions are usually rental priced, the company usually sells a "VHS Special Edition" 5 or 6 months down the line, so there is a regular edition, as opposed to the Special Edition DVD, but we mostly seem to look past it immediately because is, after all, VHS; which sucks.
