Fox 5-Star Editions

These should be the new ones for this so called "collection".

1. Planet Of The Apes (Orginal)
2. Alien
3. Aliens
4. Predator

Well, Alien is as good as one, only without the label. They may repackage it someday, and slap in another disc, perhaps the documentary disc that was previously only available with the box set.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a 5-star POTA someday. It's a landmark film for the studio. That seems to be the criteria for the 5-star brand. I wouldn't call Predator a landmark film.

Amen Guys!

You know Alien was originally going to be a double disc there was tons of material gathered, but at the time mid 1999, no one was even thinking about two disc sets. It took The Abyss and mostly Fight Club to show people wanted two discs.

Maybe for the 25th of Alien we could get a Five. I'd like a Five for Aliens because I'd like to have both versions of the film.

Predator should be a Five cause I like it better than DieHard. And if Diehard can be a five, why not Predator?

"God help us!"

Fox wants to go FIVESTAR on True Lies and Speed. God, that whole ID4 thing is starting to make sense to me.

To be a FIVESTAR you have to be a hit film. quality means nothing to these people. We'll never see a FS of something like Strange Days or Phantom of the Paradise, because they weren't blockbusters! How disgraceful.

I know The French Connection was just announced, and that an announcement can be expected for M*A*S*H* sometime in the near future, but I can't really think of any other films besides the original Apes and the first two Alien films. I guess Speed and True Lies are pretty obvious choices because they've made the studio so much money. Coccoon could possibly get a 5-Star treatment sometime in the future.

Depending on the way the wind blows, I could see 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls' getting the 5-Star treatment, especially if they can get Ebert and Russ to pitch in.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Speed five star. Just as long as it had dts sound.

Also, can someone clarify what exactly could be added into Alien or Aliens that would isn't in the box set? I am planning on buying on Alien Legacy. Anyone have an opinion on that? I heard it was pretty good.

Speed is one of my favorite movies, so I'm glad it'll be a 5-Star. I held off getting the version out now because I had a felling this would happen.

But concerning blockbusters as 5-Star editions...where's The Adventures of Ford Fairlane?

Here's a movie that was royally screwed over by Fox in it's inital release and is just screaming for a five star edition: the 1986 version of the Fly.

Instead of the cheap "double feature" dvd we got, how about a full blown special edition with the Fly II as an extra on the second disc?

Oh, I don't know, maybe the volumes and volumes of informational text on the LaserDiscs, the video interview with Ridley Scott featured on the LaserDisc, the teaser trailer for ALIENS featured as an Easter Egg at the end of Side 5 of THE ABYSS LaserDisc (which is NOT featured on any DVD, including all of the Easter Egg ALIENS trailers on THE ABYSS DVD), etc. Don't get me wrong--the ALIEN and ALIENS DVD are quite nice, but they're a far cry from comprehensive...

Besides what Filmmaker lists in the reply above, many have voiced a desire to have the theatrical version of 'Aliens,' with the possibility of adding the Special Edition scenes via seemless branching. (The current disc is Special Edition only.)

I like both versions of Aliens but I don't think the director's cut improves a lot like the Abyss does, it just makes the film a bit longer. It should be a fivestar though because no one remembers it or the original because of the terrible parts 3 and 4.

The subplot with Ripley's daughter definitely improves her relationship with Newt. At least that one small scene with Burke should always have been in there.

Anyway, I don't know where some of you are getting this info about a 5-star Speed. I've heard they're working on a DTS version, like their recent re-releases of Last of the Mohicans and X-Files, but it's not going to be under the 5-star banner. Not from what I've heard.

Why is Episode I not under the Five Star label? An obvious hint about the reissue later?

Lucas doesn't want to associate his films with other Fox films. He wants the packaging for the six films to match, and to stand apart from the rest of the Fox library. The 5-star label is really just a branding issue. There's no need to brand the SW films under another label.

And it pisses me off they George couldn't spend a cent of his 7 billion to get better cover art.

They should of just used the original theatrical poster for The Phantom Menace DVD, because I don't like the DVD artwork either. Of course, it doesn't really matter much when you're getting a 2-disc set with over 6 hours of extra content.

Sure, the cover sucks, but look on the bright side. At least it isn't a snapper!

I don't think Episode 1 qualifies as a Fox film, since Fox served only as the distributor and not the producer. Lucas paid for its production out of his own pocket.

At this point, if George included shares of stock in ILM or $100 bills with every Phantom Menace DVD purchase, some people STILL wouldn't be satisfied....whatever happened to the saying that it's what's inside that counts?

I'd rather have a well put together DVD with lots of supplements than a really pretty package (and for the record I have no problem with the DVD cover art).

THANK GOD!!! Someone finally agrees with me about Bigelow's "Strange Days". WHAT AN AMAZING FILM!!! I'd probably have a heart attack of happiness if they announced a 5-star "Strange Days" with FULL Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron commentary! Luckilly, Fox did do a good thing and release the VHS of this in widescreen!

Thanx,
Brook

What are you talking about?! You "Star Wars" fans are ALWAYS pissing me off my never being satisfied with ANYTHING!!!! You have decent cover art there! It might not be Cirterion Collection material, but atleast you can look at it! I mean, for years I waited for a DVD of "Repulsion", and look what I was left with in the ways of a cover:

Seriously, compared to this, you have nothing to complain about. I hate to be rude, but quit yer bitchin'.

Actually, not quite. Fox owns the movies that it is releasing as Five Stars, but it doesn't own Episode 1. Fox holds the copyright only on the first one, and the rest are Lucas's.

That would be cool.
